Perfect Practice Amp
I live in an apartment and bought this thing mainly because of the auxilary and headphone features. The separate volume control for the auxilary input is brilliant. I plug my computer into it and have the ability to play along with any song I can think of. It also works great with a metronome. This amp also produces a much better tone than I expected. I think if you're looking for a practice amp to use at home, by yourself, this is a perfect little amp.

It's good for the right purpose
I started with its big brother, the Ampeg SVT Classic, which is AMAZING and perfect for gigs. I bought this unit to I could rehearse at home without making the house shake. It's fine for personal practice time. It's not something you could use at a gig, or even at rehearsal with the band. I use a Hartke kickback at rehearsal which is much more capable than this unit. So if you are playing just for yourself, and you want that Ampeg SVT sound, this is close; it's not tube based, and it does not have the exact sound, but it's close.

I wanted to love this but I cannot ! This combo sounds like absolute junk ! I realized this after I brought home an Acoustic B100C , it showed me how bad the Ampeg sounds Non existent lows Clanky nasty mids Non existent highs Distorts at any level past 4 Hooked up a preamp that helped a bit but still could not hide this horribly ill-tuned children's toy Literally the worst sounding amp I've ever heard Returning as we speak Avoid like the plague
This is sufficient, will need more later

I purchased this item it came in with a defective cone. It had a distortion tone coming from it with every note played. I had it warrantied through Musicians Friend, they were extremely helpful and I had the replacement in a couple of days. I had the replacement for six days and then then the bottom speaker started making a clicking noise as if there were a guitar pick bouncing on the cone. I never went over a 4 on the volume knob, as im just getting back into playing after a ten year hiatus. I Really wanted to like this product, because I know that Ampeg has put out some of the best products in the industry. Inevitably I returned it as well and ended up purchasing an Orange Combo instead. So far so Good.
great find

Been using a jazz bass on this stack. This amp has some kick. Crisp clear tones, loud enough for garage band. Just right for practice and house parties. Need more power? Just mic it to a PA. I really like the Aux input too.

Would this be ideal for a hobby studio set up? I'm planning on using a small closet lined with foam as an isolation room to mic up the cab. This unit is definitely the right size. Just wondering if i would be able to push into big boy sounds for recording. Yes, I'm aware that bass is typically recorded direct, but im looking for a rig that can be mic'd up.
YEAH!!------- "that bass is typically recorded direct"------Let's not restrict ourselves. Properly miking a bass cabinet is an art form. It's how you record the punch. And yes, this is going to punch. You want to be in between the cone and edge. That gives you a lot of room to play with. The closer to the edge, the lower the punch. If you think it may be too low, mix in a little direct. Play with it. Have fun.submitted3 years ago

I think I put this question in the right category. Does this amp have separate Low-mid and High-mid controls?

In reading the reviews I saw one gentleman with the same problem I had with this amp which was a buzzing sound or mine actually sounded like a blown speaker. I returned the first one and it was replaced but the replacement is doing the same thing. My question is; because I'm still an armature bass player, would it matter if I was playing an "Active" bass through it?
They will buzz a bit more than passive pickups. The easiest way would be to turn down the highs and mids a little bit at a time until the buzzing subsides. The other way would be to run the signal through a noise gate to remove it.
