Clearance Alvarez AGW770CEAR 6 String Acoustic Electric Guitar Shadow Burst

Description
Tonally, the AGW770CEAR has the articulation a Grand Auditorium can offer with a little more emphasis on the trebles. Being made of walnut, the projection is nicely harnessed with a really quick response, which produces a more focused projection and fewer overtones, making this guitar a great choice for recording and live work.
To make an acoustic-electric, the AGW770CEAR is fitted with the discrete, but lively, SYS100 pickup and preamp which is located in the endpin and controlled by a smartly designed soundhole console offering volume and tone controls. Overall, this guitar is a premium quality instrument offering amazing value, with a sophisticated voice and stunning aesthetic.
Artist Series
After 50 years of making guitars, continual improvement through the use of emerging technologies, processes, and materials is still at the heart of Alvarez culture. Alvarez guitars are constructed correctly in every sense, from raw material preparation to construction and manufacturing processes. Their tonewoods are carefully cured; components such as neck blocks and wood joints are carefully designed. The painting, sanding and polishing techniques used are continually researched and developed, and the tone is impeccably crafted and married to a stable, consistent and lively sound box.
This caring approach to development comes from one simple goal: To deliver the best guitars in the market at every price point, instruments that are truly amazing value and offer a fantastic player experience. Alvarez believes their multi-award-winning Artist Series is one of the finest solid top guitar lines in the world today and demonstrates their commitment to design.
The term “solid top” refers to the soundboard of an acoustic guitar being made of solid wood, rather than being laminated. However, just because the top is solid, it does not necessarily mean the sound automatically benefits from this feature. The tone of the instrument only improves significantly when the whole guitar is built correctly to optimize the energy a solid soundboard can generate. Artist Series is built to do exactly this.
Artist Series guitars feel right and are exciting to play; no matter if you are strumming hard or picking lightly, the guitar will do what you ask of it. All of Alvarez's tops are selected by their team and graded independently of their suppliers. If it isn't worthy, they won’t use it. Top quality improves as you move up the Artist Series models, but all are stiff and finely grained.
Along with a more angled headstock, the Alvarez bi-level bridge increases string tension by making the break angle of the strings from the saddle to the top more acute. Improved string tension adds to their sound, feel and response, which are also heightened by the use of real bone nuts and saddles.

This is my, "knock-around" guitar. It replaced my previous one by a mile. I use to jam, practice and if my number one is not available to i perform with it. It does everything. I use heavier strings so went with walnut to help negate any future bulging under the bridge. We will see?
Not a bad back-up to my Taylor

Alvarez has stepped their game up from recent years with this model. Its a copy cat of a Taylor more or less but they have done a solid job. Intonation could be better and the Electronics are kind of cheap so plugged into my Fishman its a little lacking. For that reason I could never use it live unless I was using a mic... I do really like the sound quality of the Walnut though.
Not overly impressed

I'm a guitar player of 55+ years. I've owned many and all kinds of woods. This is the very first all Walnut guitar that I've owned. I love the Alvarez all mahogany guitars, they are to die for. I thought I'd take a chance with this. In the store it's a little difficult to hear every nuance because of other players, humidifier running and the way the room is designed. I bought it and took it home. It is a beautifully crafted guitar and although the sound is rich and does have great tone. With a lack of mids and highs there is a certain " deadness " to it. When a chord is struck, it's sounds and then just disappears, I have to argue about one of the reviewers stating the the sustain goes on forever. Soft strumming is not highly audible, I have to struggle to hear it. A hard strum is ok but you can't hard strum all day. The volume / tone control is in a very bad spot. The battery bag is stuffed inside so far that someone with big hands like myself will have an awful hard time not tearing of the volume / tone control when changing a battery. I've done it before on other Alvarez models. All in all I'm not giving this the worst rating or best. The craftmanship doesn't disappoint and is definitely what I would expect from Alvarez. It is a very well built guitar. I think they should have used a more traditional wood or combination of woods. There is a reason that Walnut is not widely used in guitars. It's not a great tonewood.

I'm an electric guitar player, and this is the first acoustic guitar that I've owned. I bought it for practicing and just screwing around. I chose this guitar after sampling a dozen guitars in this price range. The first thing that struck me was the beauty of this guitar. I can't say enough about how well I like the looks. But the thing that really hooked me was the sound! It has a very well balanced sound with good lows, and the highs don't try to take over. The sustain is almost forever. Typical with walnut, the harmonics are not very strong, but the fundamental notes ring all day. It doesn't "sparkle" like a spruce-topped guitar, but instead it "GLOWS." The formula is: Excellent Note Separation (x) Excellent Sustain (x) Low Harmonic Presence (=) "GLOW." It does VERY WELL with light strumming; it has good projection when playing softly. Then, when switching to a hard strum, it really booms! And that "boom" is very well balanced, and very controllable. Also a good point to note is that this guitar does an EXCELLENT job with fingerstyle. It's the separation of fundamental notes that really sets it apart in this department; with sustain really backing that up. But I will say that if you are looking for a guitar that "sparkles" like a spruce-topped guitar, then this is NOT the answer. Instead, this guitar is excellent at going the other direction: balanced fundamental notes and great sustain without the harmonics "muddying" things up. This guitar comes with phos/bronze strings, and I switched to 80/20's just to see if I liked that better, and I'm going back to the phos/bronze. The 80/20's sound good, and add some brightness; but I like how rich this thing sounds with the phos/bronze. So, if 80/20's are your thing, then they will work in this guitar. But I think that the separation of notes in the guitar allows the richness of phos/bronze to really come through. Unbelievable sound for the price!
Amazing sound and great craftsmanship

I have never owned a guitar with black walnut as a tonewood. Solid wood top. Extremely balanced sound. The electronics have a great tone as well. The action is low and quick. The neck is on the thinner side and complements the action. The necks finish is not glossy and actually has a great flat texture and feel. Which contrasts the body well. The body finish is fantastic with a high gloss shine. Its not reddish like it comes off in the picture. It is more of a medium to dark brown. It resonates well for its cut and size. The overall construction feels well built and worth more than the price listed. The sound is just a little less bright than maple and not too warm either. I believe is actually a perfect balance for an all rounder sound. I cannot wait to hear the sound open more with age. For its price, I say its a steal.
