Awesome set overall!

Alesis Crimson set is an awesome set overall! - About 3 hours from box to drumming, Have it hooked up to Simmons DA200S Drum Amp so the sound is excellent! Bought on black Friday at GC - so got a good deal on both! Novice drummer that could not be happier that I went with Alesis Crimson instead of cheaper set. Amazing sound! Video on GC site does not do the sound justice! Nice looking set! Always complimented when showing set or pics... Set can be spread out for full size look or scrunched up for compact space. Here is a breakdown of components: -Rack - Awesome! Very sturdy 4-post aluminum rack, could do a handstand on it! -5 Stars -Mesh Heads - Amazing! Nice bounce! Real drumming feel - No Guitar Hero rubber pads! Very durable and should last a long time! 8" kick bass is a big plus! Better than any other heads I tested! -5 Stars -Cymbals - Good sound, Hi-hat misses occasionally, two 12" and one 14" cymbals sound good! -4 Stars -Snare Drum - Perhaps the best feature on the set, 12" with great sound and own stable stand! -5 Stars -Hi Hat pedal - awesome - surprised at the quality! (makes up for hi-hat missing occasionally) -5 Stars -Module - Very Good! Relatively easy to figure out, 50 drums kits are awesome! -4.5 Stars Have added Gibralter stick bag, LP Black Beauty Cowbell and Toca mounted drum Tam already, so the set is expandable unlike cheaper sets. Alesis support is lacking as expected, not able to register - because Alesis does not have the Crimson set on their website yet... Overall a great set with real full size drumming feel - no doubt that this set is the best on the market for the price! (comparable sets could easily be $2500)...

Would not buy again

Owned the kit for about 3 weeks before the module locked up and screen froze on firmware version. No sounds and buttons completely unresponsive. Alesis support said they have never seen this problem before and set up RMA for replacement with a new module. That was about 2 weeks ago. Maybe the new module will get here soon because I sold my old kit and now I have no drums. Even with all the bad reviews of Alesis products I took a chance on this kit. Very disappointed to say the least. I would look elsewhere if you are considering any Alesis product.

It started out as a good set...but every couple of months, each mesh drumhead would stop producing almost all sound. Eventually, all the mesh heads stopped. So I took them apart, and inside each mesh head, a red wire was snapped in half. So obviously there is a defect in this set. So now I have a drum set that doesn't work. So right now, it's sitting in it's box in my garage collecting dust. Would definitely not recommend. I am certainly staying away from Alesis from now on.

  • Do not buy. Go cheap or go big, but not this.

I had to return this thing twice to Alesis. The first time I returned it I had to pay for shipping it back to them. The module would not turn on, this after only a month of owning it. The one they replaced it with was malfunctioning. The cymbal sounded like a tom. I am on my third module. Ultimately after all the hassle I'm left with a very poor sounding electronic drum kit not even fit for a beginner like me. Very flat and the volume for the headphones does not crank. Do yourself a favor, buy a cheaper kit or spend the extra dough on a Roland. This is not a good kit in any kind of way.

Just played one of these kits at Guitar Center. The sounds were impressive. I found two issues with this kit though. Number one, the hi-hat seemed to be either fully open or closed, no in between. Number two, the kick pad was very bouncy while playing heel-toe, causing extra beats. That issue may possibly be overcome with a different style beater. I'm still considering purchasing this kit, but I am a little nervous about tech support if I have any problems with the kit. Some reviews I have read report that Alesis has horrible support for their products. That could be a deal breaker for me. I'll be doing some more research before making a decision to purchase.

  • Really good non-pro drumkit for the price

I'm primarily a keyboard player who makes single person recordings. My weakness has always been drums. I've had a couple of good drumsets but could never make them sound right on a recording. Electronic is the way for me but until now, nothing was available that both sounded good, had the right physical characteristics that I could use it and had a reasonable price. Crimson meets my needs. I love the sound and the response of the mesh heads is perfect for the way I play. Having said that, this is not gear to carry around to gigs without doing some serious preparation first. The rack is not robust enough to move around. There are no carrying cases for the drums. There are wires everywhere. The result is every time you take this thing anywhere you are going to scratch it up and run the risk of puncturing a head.

  • Alesis quality issues.

Snare stand was broken out of the box. GC said I would have to send back the whole kit. I know better than to try and contact Alesis for any satisfaction. The plastic clamps will not secure the rack. No grip. The cymbal boom arm clamps wil not tighten all the way. The documentation is minimal. The ride's bell is very insensitive. The cymbals make excessive plastic on plastic noise. The drum heads loosen with just a few hours playing. The kick drum wobbles and is hard to clamp any pedal to it. Kick drum stand has no velcro, but the hihat pedal has super velcro. The hihat pedal feels flimsy and has no feedback. You dont get the variable hihat like you would expect. This kit is a toy.

  • There the best deal, Even for twice the money.

I'm A singing drummer and, now, instead of straining my voice to sing louder to compete with the volume of an acoustic set I can now hear my self and everyone else. I'm In love with these drums and so is my band. My guitar player was totally against them until we played. He now loves them too. they're perfect for recording, one line in and your good to go. If you feel like playing at 3am just plug in the head phones and the mesh heads produce A whisper for anyone in the room. Had them 3 months and no problems at all. I'm A pro drummer and have been playing acoustics for 60 years, yeah 60. I was camping in Pa. and stopped in A guitar center and played A few sets of electronics that were set up and the crimsons were my favorite. I do have to admit that the set up instructions suck but you'll figure it out I you look at the picture. Oh and you can add an extra drum and cymbal with ease. Like I was saying go to A guitar center and play them and you'll buy them. Oh and don't worry about buying the extra warranty because Alesis covers them for 2 years.
