The All-New Akai Professional MPK mini (new version) Compact Keyboard & Pad Controller

Description
Get Creative
MPK mini includes all the essentials for quickly laying down and expanding upon your musical ideas. Dedicated Octave Up and Down buttons increase the keyboard to the full melodic range, and a sustain pedal input is built-in for expressive playing and recording. An onboard arpeggiator with adjustable resolution, range and modes makes it easy to create intricate melodic lines with little effort. Plus, MPC Note Repeat and Full Level allow users to access genuine technologies from Akai Professional's line of MPC workstations.
Plug and Go
For maximum portability, MPK mini requires no software drivers or external power adapter for operation. It supports plug-and-play connectivity, features USB-MIDI, and powers up with a single USB connection to your Mac or PC. Four memory banks enable you to store hardware/software presets for quick and easy setting up of your computer and MPK mini.
Software Included
MPK mini comes bundled with professional production software and virtual instruments for immediate music creation. Hybrid 3, by AIR Music Tech, is a high-definition synthesizer that can create anything from fat, retro synth sounds to edgy modern leads and everything in between. SONiVOX's Wobble is an electronic music grime synthesizer that features two independent channels of spectral morphing synthesis with harmonic controls, individual filtering and discrete LFO controls. MPC Essentials, a groove/beat production and sample-triggering software, lets producers and musicians incorporate genuine MPC workflow into their DAW of choice and extends the power of MPK mini by adding up to eight pad banks, and four samples and insert effects per pad. MPC Essentials also runs in standalone mode, so you can start making music without a DAW.
MPK mini MIDI Editor
Unlock the true potential of your MPK mini with the MPK mini MIDI Editor software. This MIDI editor is a powerful preset management software that lets MPK Mini users customize their hardware and software setup on their Mac or PC. Create and tweak presets for your favorite virtual instruments, plug-ins and DAWs, then store them on your MPK mini. You'll spend less time setting up your gear and more time doing what you love—making great music.

5 Stars for it's Purpose
I gave it 5 stars because it delievers what they offer. It's a mini usb controller. It's portable! Not made for professinal live keybod players, so the keys are not like a real piano. But it's for what it was made for, and that is a mini production tool. I'm a drummer and I'm useing it to make my band loops and pre set click's. I can also use it to play pad's and loops in live settings. LOVEING IT!

Nice build. Poor integration with my DAW
I bought the Akai Pro MPK Mini MK2 to use with Reason 9. At this time, Reason 9 will auto detect the MPK Mini but not the MK2 so please be aware of this. Only the keyboard portion works in Reason 9 and some of the drum pads work fine, but none of the knobs work. It sucks too because I really like the feel of this controller, and it sits well in my lap. Everything on it feels rock solid. Unfortunately, I'm returning mine tomorrow to get something that automaps to Reason 9. I do not think this is a poorly built product, I just wish they would have made it compatible with Reason 9 (I don't have much time for trial and error, I just want it to work!). So because of the poor compatibility, I'll be picking up an M-Audio device (Oxygen 25 MKIV). 3 stars due to the poor compatibility.

I received a product where the box was damaged and the product itself smelt of weed. I was very disappointed seeing as I had payed full price & next day shipping but I received it some days later with damaged packaging. The item showed as in stock until after I paid for the next day shipment. Turned out they were all backordered.

Overall, I'm disappointed in this MIDI keyboard. At first, I was impressed and glad with the experience and quality. But as time went on, I realized that the USB port on the side was loose. I haven't put any stress on the port, and rarely take the USB plug out, but after approximately eight months the port had fully come loose. If you move the controller at all you hear a rattle. Now, the controller cannot function at all except as it functioning as a paper weight.
