Introducing the Akai Fire

Steel Banglez: Fire in the Lab

Description
The graphical OLED display makes for easy browsing and tactile control over the various files, menus and parameters within your FL Studio session. And the dedicated transport buttons give you full control of your music. When in Performance mode, Fire deftly blurs the lines between controller and instrument with its ability to play and record notes in time using the velocity-sensitive RGB pads. Up to four units can be connected to FL Studio at once, creating an 8x32 matrix for the ultimate Fire experience. Compatible with both PC and MAC to coincide with the release of FL 20, the Akai Professional Fire is built for the FL Studio user who wants to stop clicking and start playing FL Studio like a powerful studio and stage instrument.
In command
Instantly navigate the Channel Rack, Browser, Tool Bar and Playlist menus and quickly browse audio and project files without clicking a mouse. The graphical OLED display makes browsing and controlling the various files, menus and parameters within your FL Studio session a breeze; plus, the dedicated transport buttons give you full control of FL Studio’s standard playback, navigation and recording functions.
All in the mix
Bringing a tactile, mouse-free mixing solution to the FL Studio environment, Fire includes four banks of four touch-capacitive knobs that enable the user to instantly see and adjust parameter values. This facilitates a more intuitive workflow, giving the ultimate control over channel, mixer and user-assignable parameters. The Best Single Midi Controller For FL Studio
I bought a lot of Midi devices this year before the Fire came out. I have the Launchpad Mini, and had bought it because of its great mode functionality (Keys, Mixer, FX X, Etc), and the Fire takes this type of approach with some great modes. Just looking at Performance Mode alone, this device is tailored to the way FL's playlist works. At first I thought why not 8x8, but the 4x16 is amazing with FL, as it uses a more horizontal approach to performing. Of course, the RGB coloring helps a lot (something you wont get with Novation devices on FL). Much like a Launchpad, the Fire has a lot of great modes aside from Performance: Keyboard, Drum pads, and the incredibly useful Step Editor mode.The Step Editor mode may not seem so useful at first, but I find it very quick to edit long patterns as you can quickly move along, tapping what you want to add/remove. Beat creation is also very fun with the Step Editor mode, and overall along with Browser mode, you almost don't have to use the mouse once you start getting good with Fire. I absolutely love the quality of the pads, though a little small, they are super sensitive, and remind me of AKAI's MPC pads, just mini. This makes the Keyboard and Drum modes work very well, and I have composed songs using the Keys on this instead of my regular Midi Keyboard. There are many tricks and things the Fire can do beyond just these standard modes that are up front, and I highly recommend watching some YouTube videos on it (In The Mix has some great ones). For people that have no DAW, it does come with FL. My only complaint is the lack of more knobs or sliders, but there are a couple of user banks at least. Since I have other gear this isn't so bad, but as a single device, some might find that lacking as well. I would say though for a small setup, the Fire is an amazing piece. You add a Launchpad, a decent 49 key Midi Keyboard with some mixing on it, and you would be set for some time. Out of my 10 devices, the Fire sits at the center!

I just can't recommend it, nice concept, poor execution
So I really wanted to love this controller. I even bought 2 of them. There's a ton of cool things you can do with them. However... I guess I'll start with how buggy they are. I tried on both my studio PC and laptop and they both will randomly reset themselves, unlinking from each other in the process. They come right back up but you have to go back into what you were doing. They are also very much NOT velocity sensitive. Akai has what they call an "accent" mode and you can manually set the velocities of steps... that's it. The pads are not velocity sensitive as far as any test I've tried does. The pads also love to double and even triple trigger when playing in note mode. you have to press very hard on them to get them to not do this. After a few minutes I'm worn out and longing for fully weighted piano keys. They are also inconsistent in triggering and sometimes will just decide not to trigger at all. I may have chalked it up to a bad unit, but alas, both of mine do the exact same things. My advice is to wait for a version 2 that works as advertised.

I heard about this product through YouTube and I figured out that I would try it out and see how it was. I have to say, It was the best decision I have made! When I got home, I connected it to my computer and immediately fell in love with it! It is really helpful for whatever you want to do inside of FL Studio 20. I don't understand why people are disliking this product. I love everything about this product! (You can also change the saturation and brightness of the pads which is really helpful for any type of room/studio environment!)

WOW, AM I having lot's trouble with this device. First of all when I plug it in it messed up my Fl Studio and kept getting errors on it. I did try to set the settings to the midi on fl studio's but didn't seem to help and on top of it there was no sound at all. I did contact the company making this product but no response not until 24 to 72 hours. I'm thinking my patience won't last. Oh yeah, I also had re download Fl studios' because this product messed it up bad.
Must have for FL Studio!

This is a very slick bit of kit. The only reason it isn't a 5 is because it is strictly for FL. BUT, if you use FL Studio, it is a great tool!

I bought this for one purpose. I want to use my mouse and KB less, and look at a monitor less. This helps. But it takes some learning and practice. I have been using FL Studio for over a decade at a hobby level. I knew this wasn't a fun toy going into it. It looks a bit like a toy, but this thing is a tool. Interestingly it has changed my workflow and the feel of my music some, too. I like the changes, but I can't guarantee I will like them forever. It might force you to adjust your workflow too, which could be good or bad. But honestly I love it so far.

Why on earth doesn't even the BASIC functions of this MIDI controller work with FL Studio MOBILE??? Honestly...it's absurd that their own software and hardware specific product does not work with the mobile version. The small size BEGS mobile application!!! >:{
This came out before FL studio Mobile was released, why they didn't make it backwards compatible when they released the app is only known by line 6.
