The AKG P420 large-diaphragm condenser mic gives home studios and project studios professional-level recording capabilities without breaking the bank. This versatile mic features three selectable polar patterns—cardioid, omnidirectional and figure-8—to handle a variety of miking applications with pristine clarity. With a robust maximum sound pressure level of 155 dB, the P420 can capture loud sound sources like drums, amplifiers and brass instruments without distortion. The P420, a high-performance studio mic that delivers AKG's signature sound quality at an affordable price.

Three Polar Patterns for Flexible Recordings

The P420's three pickup patterns provide optimal settings for every recording scenario. Cardioid mode offers a focused pickup in front of the mic while rejecting sound from the sides and rear. Omnidirectional picks up sound evenly from all directions, ideal for ambient room miking. Figure-8 picks up from both the front and rear of the mic while blocking sound from the sides, perfect for recording two sound sources or an ensemble. With the flip of a switch, you can change the P420's polar pattern to best suit your needs.

High SPL Capacity Captures Powerful Sound Sources

Don't let the P420's affordable price tag fool you—this mic can handle seriously high sound levels thanks to its maximum SPL of 155 dB. The built-in -20 dB pad switch provides an extra 20 dB of headroom for recording loud amplifiers, drums and other powerful sound sources without distortion. Whether you're miking a kick drum, guitar cab or brass section, the P420 has the dynamic range to capture the full tonal spectrum of the performance.

Premium Components for Transparent Sound

AKG is renowned for manufacturing high-quality studio microphones, and the P420 is no exception. It features a gold-sputtered 1" dual-diaphragm capsule for clear, accurate sound reproduction across the entire frequency range. Low-noise preamplifier electronics provide a wide dynamic range and high sensitivity. The transformerless output eliminates low-frequency distortion, resulting in a transparent, open tone. All told, the P420 delivers AKG's signature sound at an affordable price point, making it an ideal first condenser mic for home studios.

Rugged Construction and Included Accessories

Despite its budget-friendly price, the P420 is built to handle the rigors of studio use. Its solid metal chassis provides durability and protects the internal components. A spider-style shockmount reduces vibrations and handling noise. The included aluminum carrying case protects the mic during storage and transport. With premium components, robust construction, and useful included accessories, the P420 offers exceptional value for any studio.
