Warranty

AKG Acoustics, U.S. Limited Warranty

Amended July 19, 2005

AKG Acoustics warrants AKG products against defects in material or workmanship for a period of two years from the date of original purchase, and agrees to repair or, at our option replace any defective unit without charge for either parts or labor. AKG grants a three-year warranty covering selected products (C 12 VR, C 414 B-ULS, C 414 B-TLII, C 414 B-XLS, C 414 B-XLII, C 426 B, C 451 B, C 480 B, C 391 B, C 1000 B, C 2000 S, C 3000 B, C 4000 B, C 4500 B, SolidTube) against defects in material and workmanship.

Warranty is valid for AKG products purchased and delivered within the United States for the original purchaser only. The purchaser's Bill of Sale will serve as proof of sale and warranty validity in the U.S. Shipment of defective items to AKG for repair will be at the customer's own risk and expense. AKG will assume the return shipping cost for all items repaired under warranty.

IMPORTANT: This warranty does not cover damage resulting from accident, misuse or abuse, lack of reasonable care, the affixing of any attachment not provided with the product, loss of parts, or connecting the product to any receptacle other than specified.

This warranty is void unless AKG Acoustics, U.S.'s service center performs the repair. No responsibility is assumed for any special, incidental or consequential damages caused by the consumer. However, the limitation of any right or remedy shall not be effective where law prohibits such.

    I bought one of these mics for my mic locker several years ago. It has never been out of my home studio, never been dropped or mistreated. I've used it a handful of times since I bought it. I took it out to use in a recording session last month and it didn't work. I contacted AKG (Harmon) tech support who said the problem could be "....corrosion in the components, aging of the components, wiring issues, diaphragm degradation, mechanical stress, etc.", and that they couldn't do anything about it since is was out of warranty. I'm shocked that any of these failure mechanisms could occur in a "quality" product that has spend its life in a climate-controlled environment and only been used a handful of times. I have "cheaper" mics (MXL, Behringer) that have performed flawlessly for years longer. I paid more for this mic when I bought it for the extra "quality". My guess is that AKG is used to the high profit margins they make on their expensive mics and that on a less expensive mic like this they expect the same margins, leading to scrimping on materials and workmanship to the point where the product has a substandard life expectancy. I don't recommend this mic, and I'll never buy another AKG product.

    I was looking for a way to make the stage "live" for our choir at our church. It was suggested that we use about 5 of these across the front. It picks up each section really well.

    This mic was purchased to record an acoustic guitar. After comparing it to the Samson Gtrack mic I decided to return it. The sound was a bit to muddy for me. The Gtrack sounded much better.

    I used these on cello, banjo, and cymbals for three days straight right out of the box. Very crisp, clear, subtle sound... more than good enough for live sound.

    Wonderful versatile SDC. Amazing on all acoustic instruments. Stands up to microphones costing 10 times as much like the KM184. Oh... don't lose the stand adapter... I hear they are expensive! lol
