The Return of OCDP Drums: Inside the Relaunch with Adrian Young and Daniel Jensen

Description

Orange County Drum & Percussion is back, and this Limited Maple 4-piece drum shell pack brings the brand’s custom shop heritage and bold visual identity to a modern performance-ready platform. Released as part of the brand’s 35th anniversary relaunch, this shell pack reflects the visual attitude and player-focused design that defined OCDP’s rise from Orange County’s underground custom scene into Southern California’s alternative movement—where individuality behind the kit mattered as much as the music itself. Finished in Sharkbite Fade, a striking stain matte black-to-red transition inspired by the brand’s custom shop heritage, this 4-piece configuration includes a 22x18" bass drum, 10x7" and 12x8" rack toms, and a 16x14" floor tom, providing a versatile foundation for a full setup with an optional matching snare. Built from 6-ply European maple shells with 7.2 mm total thickness, along with precision-cut 45-degree bearing edges, this shell pack delivers balanced response, clear articulation and controlled resonance across live and studio environments. Updated OCDP hardware, including knurled 12.7 mm L-rod mounting and Remo UT heads, supports consistent tuning and dependable performance. Designed for drummers who want to be both seen and heard, this 4-piece shell pack carries forward OCDP’s custom shop legacy with a modern build that holds its own on today’s stages.

Maple Shell Construction With Balanced Tone and Versatility

This shell pack's maple build responds naturally under the sticks, delivering warmth, clarity and controlled projection. Each drum features European maple shells with 7.2 mm total thickness, creating a versatile tonal foundation suited for both live and studio environments. This balanced response allows ghost notes to speak, backbeats to cut and fills to remain defined without overwhelming the mix. With 45-degree bearing edges across the toms and bass drum, tuning remains intuitive and repeatable, offering a wide range of usable tones—from tight, punchy articulation to more open, resonant textures that stay focused.

OCDP Hardware Platform With Stable Mounting and Precise Setup

The updated OCDP hardware platform is built for stability and consistent performance. Zinc OCDP lugs with new tooling provide dependable strength and even tension across each drum, helping maintain tuning through extended playing. The 2.5 mm steel hoops deliver responsive feel while allowing the shells to resonate naturally. The double tom holder and 12.7 mm knurled L-rod mounting system allow secure positioning and repeatable setup. A rubber suspension system reduces shell contact for improved resonance, while advanced bass drum spurs provide stability during energetic playing. The result is a performance-ready hardware platform designed for reliability and control.

Sharkbite Fade Finish With Custom Shop Visual Impact

The Sharkbite Fade moves from deep black into rich red tones, creating a high-contrast transition that reads clearly from across the stage and under changing lighting conditions. Because the stain matte finish is applied directly to the maple shells rather than a wrap, the natural wood grain remains visible. Matching wood hoops continue the visual theme, with a 4" extended black front hoop and red batter-side hoop adding contrast from every angle. Chrome-plated hardware provides durability and visual balance, while the OCDP aluminum badge reinforces the brand’s custom shop lineage. The result is a stunning finish designed to stand out both up close and on stage.

A Shell Pack Built for Flexible Setups and Real-World Performance

This drum shell pack provides a strong, adaptable foundation without locking players into a fixed configuration. With no snare, cymbals or stands included, it allows for a personalized setup built around individual preferences. The 22x18" bass drum delivers punch and depth, while the 10x7 and 12x8" rack toms provide quick response and articulation. The 16x14" floor tom adds full-bodied low-end support, creating a balanced configuration suited for rehearsal rooms, studio sessions and live performance. Combining modern construction, flexible configuration and bold visual identity, the Limited Maple 4-piece shell pack delivers a versatile foundation for building a complete OCDP setup.

The Return of Orange County Drum & Percussion

Born out of Southern California’s underground custom drum scene, Orange County Drum & Percussion became one of the most recognizable boutique drum builders of the 1990s and early 2000s. Known for bold finishes, distinctive hardware and kits built for drummers who wanted to stand out on stage, OCDP earned a loyal following among influential artists across rock and alternative music, including 311, Blink-182, Limp Bizkit, Foo Fighters, NOFX, Slipknot and The Offspring. Now relaunched by Guitar Center to coincide with the brand’s 35th anniversary, OCDP returns with a product lineup inspired by its original custom shop designs while introducing updated builds for today’s drummers. Guided by founder Daniel Jensen and longtime OCDP artist Adrian Young of No Doubt, the new collection carries forward the visual identity and stage-driven attitude that defined the brand, reimagined for a new generation of drummers.
