i usually stop by to see what new guitars that they have in stock at the guitar center, and I did just that on Monday around November 10th, and I went through their section of the fenders, the gibsons, washburns, etc, and I came across the Ibanez section which is usually kept at the back of the guitar section, and their it was the GR20 hanging on the wall with a clearance price tag. In the past, I have purchased guitar for less than $200 and often then not, I was disappointed, even with a Fender Strat. The One that I play the most now is my Fender Strat Midnight Purple, which I guess is from their standard series, which I have my Roland Gr 20 connected to. Anyway, so I came across the grx20 which felt a lot like the fender strat with the sound closely resembling of the Les Paul with the dual humbucker pickups, and at $79 clearance price, I didn't think it was going to be that good, but when I played it, it felt right with me. I don't know what the original price was, but the guitar seems quite well put together, and this is only my third Ibaez guitar. I still have the one that I have purchased in 82 called the Custom guitar, and I've had one with a floating trem bar with fine tuner on the trem, which I did not like the sound at all. This one, with the five way switch I could get as gritty as Ace or bit twangy in the style of Stevie Ray Vaughan, and I think I found a guitar that I could play from Ace Frehley to Zebra, without switching guitars. It stays in tune well for a guitar equipped with a standard tremolo, and it uses the same type of trem arm from a strat so that's a plus. the tuning hardware isn't as smooth as my other two previous Ibanez guitars, and the Trem arm is a bit on the stiff size. But beyond that, this guitar was more than what I had bargained for in that price range. it far preceeds my warlocke by a couple of miles, and I paid more for the Warlock then this one. Beginner or not, this guitar is not a bad choice. I would have wished if they had the white one, but they were only closing out the black model. I will probably end up replacing the Tremolo with a little softer to the touch one, but other than that, I would have give a four star, but because of the tremolo arm, I am going to give it three stars.
