Description

The Gibson SG Standard ’61 Guitar Center-exlusive electric guitar returns to the classic design that made it popularly played and much-loved, shaping sound across generations and genres of music. In 1961, the Les Paul model was put on hiatus and an all-new design evolved into what is today known as the SG or "solid guitar."

The Gibson SG Standard ’61 retains the styling of the original, with a SlimTaper mahogany neck and a bound rosewood fingerboard. The mahogany body features deeply sculpted body scarfing, a 5-ply teardrop pickguard and a 22nd-fret neck joint. The nickel-plated hardware includes a classic-style Tune-O-Matic bridge and keystone tuners. The pickups are 61R and 61T humbuckers for a vintage-inspired voice with added power and top end. Controls feature audio taper potentiometers and Orange Drop capacitors.

This is my #1 guitar, now.

I decided to go to GC for lunch break and ended up buying this after playing it through a fender blues jr. there. I wanted to play some gigs with this guitar before leaving a review. The reason why I bought this guitar was because my Les Paul was getting too heavy after long gigs. True enough, it doesn't sound as great as my LP, but this SG sings and has its own tone. I am surprised how much sustain and "ringness" it has while playing. This guitar is lightweight comnpared to the LP and has a wider neck at the base, it feels like, which is great for leads close to the pickups. This has become my number one guitar. Joy to play and sounds great The tobacco burst is pretty dark on the one I have compared to the picture they show on the website... And I love it. It used to be my back that would get tired from playing gigs, but now, it's my fingers from playing so much on this thing. Just get it... It's Gibson, it's worth it.

Looks great, feels great, but needed setup out of the box.

I got this guitar recently, ordered online. I was sent a floor model, because for some reason, though GC said they had it "in stock", they couldn't find one in their warehouse, and sent me one from a store miles away. It had dings where the neck meets the headstock, due to being hung on the wall. Most of the hardware was loose. The thing would not stay in tune and would not intonate. I spent more time tuning and fussing with it, than playing it. Had to have it set up professionally. because lubing the nut and the bridge didn't help. I'm wondering, if it'd been sent from the warehouse direct, those issues would be present. The finish is beautiful. The fretboard is smooth. Just wish GC had more guitars actually in-store, to try before buying. Let's just say, for near $2000 (over, after taxes), I expected better.

    Super light easy playing ğuitar. The '61 Burstbucker pickups make it sound great. I got the sunshine finish color and the grain shows through beautifully. Well worth the extra cost over the batwing standard.

    The guitar itself is amazing. The case had a manufacturing flaw. The hinge for the handle had a tiny sliver of metal exposed. It was razor sharp. The 2nd time I grabbed the case it got me good. Guitar is easily 5 stars but the case injured me and now I cannot play the guitar so im taking a few stars off. I got this from musicians friend, new.

    I've been playing this SG with 12s on it in C# standard when I'm in the metal mood and this guitar delivers! The pickups sounds fantastic and the neck feels fast. With it being nitro the neck is a little sticky but it'll break into something real nice soon. Just a touch of neck dive but that's only due to the body being so lightweight - balance and gravity, what can ya do? Everything feels high quality and no QC issues. I'm usually playing a Fender but I feel right at home on this SG. I tried a Custom Shop out and preferred this. My wallet and my ears are very happy.

    I love sgs and this is my first Gibson so I am over the moon with how well it plays and how nice the finger wood feels, it's light and easy to play.

    I have several Gibsons and Epiphones, including an SG from the mid 90s that is my baby. I was hoping for an upgrade. This is the most uncomfortable guitar I've ever played. The frets were plekked to the point that soloing and bending were impossible. Either bad QC or design.
