Epiphone

Description

This Ltd. Ed. Jack Casady Blue Royale Bass Guitar comes in a beautiful Chicago Blue Pearl color finish along with distinctive Royale-style Silver Sparkle binding. It features a superb Epiphone pickup and electronics along with the rock solid hardware you've come to expect from Epiphone.

Deep, articulate tone and classic semi-hollowbody style are the hallmarks of the Epiphone Jack Casady Signature Bass. The maple body, mahogany center block, set maple neck, and rosewood fretboard conspire to create a sweet-playing bass you won't want to put down. It has a single low-impedance JCB-1 humbucker with VariTone control, as well as traditional volume and tone knobs. Pearloid trapezoid fingerboard inlays, body binding, and Jack's signature across the headstock set it apart.

Jack Casady, electric rock bass player extraordinaire, worked closely with Gibson and Epiphone to create this tasty signature model. It's a long-scale, hollowbody electric bass constructed loosely around his vintage 1972 Gibson Les Paul Signature bass, discovered in a New York instrument shop in the mid-'80s. Starting from there, Jack spent a lot of energy working with a pickup designer from Epiphone putting together a new humbucker to reside in his signature model. Together they nailed down a passive pickup and control section that delivered tone so pure and natural it'll give you goose bumps. The pickup is a special low-impedance model (the JCB-1), which produces a bass sound high impedance pickups and active electronics can't match.

The controls – a volume, tone, and versatile VariTone knob – produce enough variation for any situation. The bass has a unique and high-quality transformer with a 3-way impedance selector which eliminates the need for active circuitry while giving the low-impedance signal from the pickup a boost. The pickup impedance selector (VariTone) allows for sounds from clear and clean with acoustic vibe to deep, round, and growling rock authority.

The body construction is unique, too. It's not a true semi-hollow or hollow body, but a hybrid that combines the best from both designs. Under the bridge is a mahogany center block that adds sustain and helps to fight feedback. This construction allows the top to vibrate freely, giving the bass guitar a more natural, woody tone.

The Epiphone Jack Casady Signature Bass is as unique as Jack, with a vibe, tone, and innovative features all its own.

I recently started a band and this fine piece of equipment is going to make a fine addition to my setup. I love it's look and I love it's sound. This bass does have a little weight to it but really doesn't bother me.

The only con I can think of is the neck dive, but its a hollowbody bass so it should be expected. Get a 3" strap and you'll be fine. Some will still hate on it because they won't be able to pull off that "slung way down low" look. Get over yourself. The CBP paint is gorgeous and not too glittery. The sound is great and what a bass should sound like (hollowbody gives it a slight upright bass tone). I like the simple one-pickup design and the chicken-head gain knob is awesome. One thing that really struck me was the out-of-the-box playability. No buzzing frets or need to lower action. It was just pick up and play. I matched this with Mesa Subway 1x15 & 1x12 neo cabs (awesome) and the GK MB Fusion 800 ("crushing headroom" to quote a Talkbass thread). I highly recommend the 1x15 if you only need one cab and the MBF800 is a very user-friendly and ridiculously lightweight sledgehammer. My entire rig weighs under 100 pounds and brings some serious thunder (mini-fridge of doom). If you're looking for something a little different (and very reasonably priced) than the everyday P/J bass, this is it.

This is a very well constructed bass with great clean sound....natural tone. I will honestly tell you that the pictures really don't do justice for this bass! It is a bit neck heavy but not to the point that it's not comfortable to play...this would appear to be normal for being a hollow body. I would recommend this bass to anyone in a heartbeat.

  • I love my bass!!! Very solid, sounds and plays amazing!

I Play with Detroit's Laughing Madmen. I was looking for a solid Bass that was hollow body with a driving punchy sound this bass is exactly that. I could not be more happy with my Jack Casady signature Blue Royale Bass!
