Open Box DigiTech Vocalist Live 4 Harmony Processor Level 1

I'm also a trombone player and got this a month or so ago to essentially create a one-man brass section, and it does do the job incredibly! I think it even sounds better using a horn than the vocals, but both turn out awesome (I also play guitar and sing). The one problem I have is that for the sound I was looking for, I really needed to have voicings that were an octave higher combined with either an additional 5th or 3rd higher along with the octave, and also either a 3rd or 5th down. Unfortunately, the unit does not allow you to create custom voicing combinations, and only offers the octave by itself; octave plus both 3rd and 5th above, which gives somewhat of a tin sound; or the octave with other intervals below, which is too much low-end. Other combinations don't include the octave, which really adds a phenomenal lead-trumpet sound over my horn's original sound/range. I guess the vocalist-pro would have been better, although it looks like a rack mount which would make it difficult for my purposes, or, I've seen a new version not available at GC yet, the Vocalist Live-5. So anyway, just a little disappointed that the limitations were not explained before I purchased it. But for vocals, the options do indeed work & sound great.

Very nice device, for both fun and work. I got interested based on the reviews, that' s why I've bought the Live 4 instead Live 3. I also agree that having the guitar and vocal output separate would be definitive a plus. I have tested the Boss harmonizer but Live 4 beats shamelessly.

This is a work-horse! I do about 100-120 gigs per year and run through this as a DI. I bought it to fatten vocals, add some subtle harmonies and effects and to "change it up" a bit so not every song sounds the same EQ and effect wise. The AUX input sealed the deal, with that you can run an iPod into the mixer for break music. For me I mixed down originals without guitars and vocals and play along (only slightly cheesier than bands playing with a sequence and not telling). It has lots of output power and you'll need to pad the input of any PA you're working with. The only downside was it started flaking out right after the 2 year warranty expired (of course) and sounded like a bad cable or something at first. The unit would all of a sudden "peak" and shut down for a half-second and fade back in. The PA clip detector light would flash when this happened. Replaced all cables to / from unit and that didn't help. Ran it in stereo instead of mono and seemed to help for a while but started to flake out again. I'll likely get another now that I'm used to it and haven't found a better work horse for the money. I have tried and tested other similar units which have failed miserably.

I've owned and used this unit for a couple of years. I've read five star reviews and agree with most of what they say. I find it hilarious that some folks have problems getting a good sound out of this piece of gear. Are you guys KIDDING? Tho I wouldn't take one of these to a gig without glancing at the manual, and spending a few minutes getting acquainted with it's controls and functions first, I find it hard to believe you could make it sound bad without having a few too many drinks, or being a life long rider of the "short bus". Mine works just as advertised, and I'm no rocket scientist.

I've had the V4 for a week now, it is time to come up for air. Not since my first GB4 Session Trainer have I had so much fun with gear. I'm going to use it at a gig for the first time next week, my point being that if you spent just a little time with it you can confidently play in public. The preset called BOB is a hoot! It really does sound like Bob Dylan backing you up. Would have loved a Janis preset but if you fiddle with this you can probably do that. If you Digitech engineers are reading these reviews I'd offer these humble suggestions: You really need to add a USB function that would allow me to reorder the preset list on my PC. Your set list is always going to be changing so it would be nice to move the presets quickly and save a series of set lists. VOX offers this feature on the Tonelab ST. It really would have been helpful to have a DVD of the programing features. While the unit is in practice simple enough to program the included instructions only add confusion. If Digitech does adopt these suggestion it would be nice if they sent me an updated V4 to po box 901 12912. Try setting up a user preset that has no harmony but still adds pitch correction and guitar effects. Crazy useful, the box is worth the price for this feature alone. Good luck. J out!!

Got it'tryed it'within two hours of workin with it i knew that it would be right for me,The vocal harmony matching with my guitar cords was excellent' worth every dollar' went out the next day and got the digitech jam man looper hooked up my drummer in line with guitar put on record auto did one three cord turn around hit the switch and it did the rest.excellent tool for working musician.
