Open Box DW 5700 Heavy-Duty Straight/Boom Cymbal Stand Level 1

Unique to a DW cymbal stand is its customization options, in particular, you can adjust the distance between felts, on older models, the device seems more robust, this must be a newer design be it more economical or 'green'. I will not return the stand, but it should be noted.

Bought this for my son to go with the China symbol we bought him when we were at the Guitar Center store in Knoxville. He loves both! Quality is awesome.

I bought a 5000 boom stand so that I could load it up. I wanted to put a 12" tom, 13" tom, a 15" crash cymbal, and a couple of splash cymbals. This setup is part of a larger set a total of 6 tom toms, a floor tom, and 2 bass drums. Anyway my mounted toms are mounted to the cymbal stands to keep the mounted toms off of the bass drums. I was using two 900 & one 800 series Pearl stands from the 80's. The 900 series have dents in them from the adapters and the 800 series the pipes are bent from a 14" tom and a 22" ride. I didn't want this problem again so I started to look for another brand that wouldn't do this again. I tried the 5000 series boom and low and behold the pipe was dented just from putting the items that I mentioned before. I just let them sit (I didn't even move it) for a couple of weeks. It also shook like jello, like it was near its capacity, when I pushed a tom with my finger. I took it back and bought a 9000 series boom on memorial day because it was on sale (usually can't find it for less than $154.00 and change) Well, so far no dents and there were some scratches already on it (it was on the show room floor). And it is carrying the load better then the 5000-it doesn't shake like the 5000. Most people don't put that kind of load on a cymbal stand but I am because of the set up. Another solution would to be to buy a drum rack but, right now I don't want to invest the money into it. Or to buy tom stands-to me its doing the same thing. If you need to put multiple items on one stand, I would recommend the 9000 over the 5000 it seems to do what I want it to be doing just a little bit better. Someone was talking about the plastic handle on the tilter on the 9000. It is on both models now so you don't have a choice. I am discussing denting in great detail because I haven't seen any reviews that have discussed stands denting and scratching from adapters. When you pay a lot of money the stands shouldn't look like it was in an accident after a few weeks.
