After my PC-88 died I needed a controller quickly for the studio. I purchased the Keystation Pro88 at a local GC. I didn't expect much since the board is so inexpensive. There is a reason it is so cheap. It was OK for a while, although the paint just below the keys would rub off with a simple swipe. From the beginning, the action of the upper octave was very sticky. I thought that it would loosen up over time. No such luck. I did email M-audio about the paint and they really weren't much help. Now, after a few years, it has decided to transmit random controllers. Not a great help when trying to write. My PC-88 lasted 12 years or more. This thing lasted maybe 4. And that was in the studio, I cannot imagine this thing lasting 6 months of gigging. You definitely get what you pay for. Spend a little more and avoid this board.

bought this thing for the weighted keys,....i hate this thing. Velocity response is very inconsistent. Good luck trying to play piano or pianissimo because it just does a terrible job with low velocities. and action is too heavy for fast organ work or nice synth solos. on the plus side, if you like buttons and faders you'll be happy. also, no aftertouch...at this price that's just wrong!!! my advice, just look for something else.

  • Awful Action

Purchased this from a local store and promptly returned it the very next day. While the electronics/panel/knobs/sliders are all fine the action on this keyboard is horrible. It is very sluggish, offers little response and little repetition. Example: try to play any single note repeatedly, as in 32nd notes, and you will find it extremely difficult to get the notes to repeat. If you want a controller that actually performs like a grand piano action I suggest you look elsewhere.

As the title says I'm not the most qualified or experienced person to write a midi-controller review, but I have owned this keyboard for almost a year. I write, compose, and perform with this controller. It does what I ask of it (so far). All the keys, knobs, and sliders work. It works with Logic, except for the dedicated transport buttons (stop, start, play, etc.). They worked with Live and Cubase though, so it's probably just a Logic (my new DAW) thing. The action doesn't prevent me from making music. If this keyboard was taken from me today I'd look and compare other keyboards, but I would definitely consider this keyboard again. Don't know what else to say. Hope this review helps.

  • Was great at first ... but it's almost worthless to me now

I've had this for 2 and 1/2 years. I absolutely loved it ... for 6 months or less. Then some of the keys stopped transmitting MIDI notes. But it was intermittent. I called M-Audio, they walked me through a "Reset" procedured, and then agreed that they'd take a return. They gave me a RA number. But then it started working right again. Then it would go bad. Then it would be OK. It's STILL like that 2 and 1/2 years later. But worse than that ... after the 1 year warranty period expired ... several other keys started transmitting at MAX velocity (MIDI 127) no matter how light you touch them. This is ALWAYS like that. It is extremely annoying. M-Audio's return policy is that I can ship it back (I pay for shipping on this 55 pound keyboard) and have them give me an estimate to fix it, and then pay them to fix it. Are you kidding? That's why it's gathering dust. I'm really bummed out.
