Ibanez

Description

If Ibanez holds the most iconic name in metal, then the RG is certainly the guitar that built this reputation. Every inch of this classic screams speed, fury and expression. This RG's mahogany body, dressed in a white pickguard, and sharktooth inlaid bound jatoba fingerboard, make for a clean, clear, visual statement with a touch of a throwback vibe.

All good, but this axe goes well beyond skin-deep beauty. As the originators of the thin, fast neck, the Wizard III represents yet another achievement in player comfort, comfort that translates into maximizing player performance. Factor in proprietary Quantum pickups for a wide palette of thick, distorted tone textures and the ultrareliable Edge Zero II tremolo and you've got a guitar that's every inch a pure metal machine.

I needed a metal guitar to play is this one was perfect for me, attractive, good specs and on my price range. The humbuckers have a lovely sound, the single coil could be better however. The Floyd rose style bridge was daunting at first because I had never had a guitar with that bridge, but I am getting used to it with time.

  • Lots of maintenance at first but it's a GREAT guitar!

It's a good guitar and I enjoy playing it. However, I had to make a lot of neck adjustments and other things to fix the fret buzz. It sounds great now but was high maintenance at first.

  • Very versatile and fun to play!

This guitar is a lot of fun, the quantums sound great to me. The pickups seem to produce thinner Strat-like tones in the 2nd-4th positions, but the humbuckers really fill out the tone. Keeping it in tune isn't always easy, even with the stock gauges and after some adjustments. Overall, it's an excellent guitar.

I bought a 2013 model of this guitar in black. Great guitar! The action is super low and the neck is smooth. As far as the tremolo it is good. It is a little different than some other floyd roses but it is an ibanez bridge so that is expected. I probably haven't tuned it in 2 months and with some minor adjustments here and there using the fine tuners it is still in tune. I can do anything and it wont go out of tune!

So I already own 2 RG's and they are hard tail versions. Really want an RG with a DL trem system. Heard good things about the Edge III and Edge Zero II trems as long as they are properly set up. The info on GC says this RG has an Edge Zero II. After finding differing info on the Ibanez web sight, I emailed Ibanez. The response was this series RG has neither the Edge III of the Edge Zero II. The reply said the trem is a less expensive version trem system. Dont know where the info came from that this thing RG has a Zero II system in it. So that has turned me away from this RG. Gonna look for an 2XXV or a 3XXV RG with the ZPS system in it. Dont get me wrong, I love the Ibanez RG guitars, but I dont wanna roll 399 on a guitar with a knock off DL trem system in it.
