Gretsch Guitars

Description

Compact, ornate and unapologetically bold, the G6134TG-58 Vintage Select ’58 Custom Penguin is a stunning ode to one of the rarest birds in the Gretsch lineup. Part of the Vintage Select series, it pairs a chambered mahogany body with an arched maple top to deliver warmth, sustain and focused resonance without excess weight. TV Jones Ray Butts Ful-Fidelity Filter’Tron pickups provide clear, dynamic response with signature Gretsch sparkle, while a set mahogany neck with an ebony fingerboard offers a smooth, responsive feel. The Bigsby B3GP vibrato adds expressive pitch control, and premium hardware throughout ensures stability and precision. Dressed in a stealthy Nightbird Emerald gloss nitro finish with gold appointments, it’s a limited-edition statement piece built for players who demand standout retro style, uncompromising clarity and total sonic control.

Chambered Mahogany Body With Maple Top for Warmth, Focus and Resonance

The ’58 Penguin’s chambered mahogany body forms the tonal foundation, delivering a warm, rounded response with greater focus and control than a traditional hollowbody design. The maple top introduces brightness and snap, helping notes cut through with articulation and balance. Chambering reduces overall weight while adding a subtle acoustic resonance, giving the guitar an open feel without sacrificing definition. This combination produces a focused low-end, rich midrange and clear top-end, making it well-suited for both clean passages and driven tones.

Mahogany Neck and Ebony Fingerboard for Smooth Feel and Articulate Response

A set mahogany neck with a standard U profile provides a comfortable, substantial grip that supports both rhythm and lead playing. The shorter 24.6” scale length adds a slightly looser feel, making bends easier and contributing to a warmer tonal response. An ebony fingerboard enhances clarity and attack while offering a smooth playing surface, and the 12” radius with medium-jumbo frets ensures consistent playability across the neck. Mother-of-pearl Neo-Classic thumbnail inlays and Luminlay side dots provide both classic Gretsch style and practical visibility.

TV Jones Ray Butts Ful-Fidelity Filter’Tron Pickups for Open, Dynamic Clarity

Faithfully based on Ray Butts’ original designs, the TV Jones Ful-Fidelity Filter’Tron pickups deliver the unmistakable Gretsch voice with added openness and detail. Their lower output and non-waxed construction create a three-dimensional response with tight bass and extended high-end clarity. Clean tones retain sparkle and separation, while driven sounds maintain articulation without becoming congested. The result is a highly responsive pickup set that reacts closely to picking dynamics and playing style.

Bigsby B3GP Vibrato and Premium Hardware for Expressive Control

The Bigsby B3GP string-thru vibrato tailpiece provides smooth, controlled pitch modulation, allowing for subtle shimmer or more expressive movement without compromising tuning stability. A Space Control bridge with a pinned ebony base ensures solid intonation and sustain, while Grover Imperial tuners offer precise tuning and a distinctive visual signature. A bone nut enhances resonance and tuning consistency, and gold hardware throughout reinforces both durability and the Penguin’s refined aesthetic.

A Faithful Tribute to a Rare Gretsch Solidbody

With its striking Nightbird Emerald nitrocellulose finish, gold plexi pickguard and iconic Penguin styling, the G6134TG-58 Vintage Select ’58 Custom Penguin stands apart as a bold interpretation of a storied Gretsch classic. Its combination of chambered construction, articulate Filter’Tron pickups and refined period-correct appointments creates a guitar that is as versatile as it is visually distinctive. Built for players who want vintage character with focused performance and unmistakable presence, it delivers a uniquely Gretsch take on the solidbody electric guitar.
