Description

The Epiphone Performer PR-4E limited-edition acoustic-electric guitar has been a best-seller since its release over a decade ago, giving beginners a chance to learn on a guitar that had both professional sound and quality construction at a great price. The Performer PR-4E continues Epiphone’s long tradition of building every instrument to last a lifetime.

This limited-edition Performer PR-4E features a select spruce top, one of the preferred tonewoods when making acoustic guitars because of its ability to hold up to hours of playing time in all kinds of venues and still project a rich tone. The Performer PR-4E’s select spruce top is supported by vintage-style X-bracing—just like vintage Epiphone Masterbilts—which not only supports the top but also gives the Performer PR-4E considerable volume and balance for its size.

It’s a perfect guitar for singer-songwriters too, and thanks to the quality construction and combination of spruce and mahogany (back and sides), the Performer PR-4E doesn’t suffer from sounding “boomy” or "scooped" like other beginner guitars. Its Venetian cutaway allows easy reach to the upper frets and gives the PR-4E a distinctive profile that’s both modern and classic. The PR-4E’s mahogany body features 5-layer white-and-black binding and the mahogany neck and single-layer white binding along the neck. The Epiphone-trademark Sloped Dovewing headstock features premium covered 14:1 ratio.

The limited-edition PR-4E's piezo pickup system is located under the saddle. The guitar’s built-in electronics are mounted on the upper bout of the guitar and feature easy-to-use boost and cut controls for treble, middle and bass. There is also a volume control along with a phase switch and a low-battery light indicator. A 9-volt battery compartment is located next to the EQ controls allowing for quick changes during a show.

Beware no tuner.......other than that nice for the money.

I purchased this for my camp guitar to leave there trying to find a low cost decent quality guitar. Found one, disappointed description says built in tuner but no tuner, but the general quality will get a clip on tuner. Finish is excellent with two minor flaws a small scratch on the side of the headstock and a blemish in the finish on the other side of the headstock just under about 1/8" in diameter. Very pleased with the tuners smooth much better than my fender 12 string. Sound is even but has a slight hint of a hollow sound in the mid frequencies. The body is thin so the sound does not has as much bass as a thicker body. Plugged in sounded similar to other piezo systems; however, didn't get any feedback or vibration harmonics I have heard on other piezo systems. So very nice electronics.

Defective - Out of the box!! This order was an ordeal!

The Epiphone PR-4E Guitar was only online - and no local stores had it in stock - so I ordered it online. I had been excited, thinking I got a very good deal with the discount of "Daily Pick" / "Stupid Deal of the Day"! I thought Epiphone was a brand-name and expected it to have good quality! Boy, this brand-new guitar would NOT tune! The "A"-string tuner got up to "G#" and then stuck there. Any attempt to turn the tuner further only resulted in a "clack-clack" troublesome sound which warned me to stop, or else, the string might break! Other strings got tuned, but would go out of tune again after 5 minutes! What else? Looking into the sound-hole, I could see two wires of the pre-amp pick-up loose inside near the saddle area! These wires should have been tied / bound to the saddle-wall, but they were not! So, I unwrapped the 9V battery and tested the pick-up. I could hear a lot of echoing from the guitar-wall; it sounded very abnormal! Needless to say, I was totally frustrated. The brand-named Epiphone guitar was malfunctioning straight-out from the box! And no, UPS did not do it, the shipment box was not broken. These were simply manufacturing defects, meaning no quality controls were given to the production of this guitar! Perhaps, I received a lemon, but this defective guitar made me significantly distrust the Epiphone brand now! Adding insult to the injury, Guitar Center's Rep, whom I spoke to, did something and I could not even return it to the local store. When I arrived at the local store the following day, I was told the online Rep. issued an "RA" (Return Authorization), meaning it could only be shipped back to warehouse (i.e. the GuitarCenter.com). This meant, instead of a prompt refund in the local store, I'll have to wait until it arrives at the warehouse! I felt this order was an ordeal, and I hesitate to order from GuitarCenter.com again! (The only redemption: The managers at the local store were courteous, polite, and helpful.)

    XLR gives so much better sound than the 1/4 inch. Action is good. Overall a good guitar for the money. It does not have a pick guard. Two guitar strap buttons.

    For the price this product exceeds my expectations. It is easy to play, perfect to carry on vacation or wherever. The sound is very acceptable. Is it a high end guitar, absolutely not, but it plays better than some of my more expensive guitars. I may by another one to leave at the office for those spare moments, or for the grandkids.

    I just wanted a cheap but decent accoustic-electric as a spare for friends jamming at my house. I have always liked Epiphones so I took a chance and ordered this one. My friends and I are blown away by the sound quality. Set up great and has near perfect intonation. Sounds almost as good as my buddy's Taylor. So, I bought another one just for a spare or maybe a gift.

    I generally play a Classical guitar. Decided to experiment with an Acoustic/Electric. The "on sale" price at Guitar Center convinced me that I couldn't go too far wrong. Guitar seems to be well-made and it seems to have been set up properly. The guitar is a "slimline version" and, unless plugged into an amp, does not have the projection and depth one would expect. It is easy to play. String buzz is non-existent, unless you have fingers and nails close to adjacent strings. Keep in mind that I am used to playing a wider neck (1.875") and that an acoustic neck at 1.6875" is quite a transition and challenge. The strings at 12--52 could be better -- don't what the brand is. The saddle and nut are made of plastic -- go figure! I changed the strings to John Pearse Bronze X-Light 80/20 10--47 and this has improved the sound. I have on order a bone saddle and hope that this will add more volume and projection to the instrument. Bought it on sale and have no regrets.

    Looks great. Frets and neck are uneven. Why have a cutaway if you get the same pitch from adjoining frets? I got this guitar on SDOTD. BUT some frets are higher than others. Terrible neck. Not playable past 4th fret.
