The FG800J features a solid spruce top paired with nato/mahogany back and sides, giving players an all-purpose dreadnought configuration for strumming and fingerstyle playing. Its traditional dreadnought body provides strong acoustic projection while retaining a straightforward design for developing players.
The Yamaha FG800J combines classic dreadnought tone with the dependable craftsmanship and outstanding value that have made Yamaha acoustics a favorite of players for generations. Solid Spruce Top for Balanced Dreadnought Tone
The FG800J begins with a solid spruce top, providing the clarity, projection and dynamic response that have made spruce the benchmark tonewood for acoustic guitars. Paired with nato/mahogany back and sides, it produces a balanced voice with articulate highs, warm mids and a full, supportive low end that responds beautifully to both strumming and fingerstyle playing. The traditional dreadnought body shape enhances volume and projection, giving the FG800J the bold, room-filling sound players expect from a classic acoustic.
Nato Neck and Rosewood Fingerboard for Comfortable Everyday Playability

The smooth rosewood fingerboard offers a responsive playing surface with excellent durability, while the satin neck finish allows effortless position shifts without feeling sticky during long playing sessions. A 25" scale length, 1.69" nut width and comfortable fingerboard radius create a balanced playing experience that's equally well suited to rhythm playing, fingerstyle arrangements and melodic lead work.
Classic Appointments for Timeless Acoustic Style
Traditional details give the FG800J a refined appearance that reflects Yamaha's long-standing commitment to quality acoustic guitar design. I went into the acoustic room and tried a lot of new and used from pretty much every brand. This was one of the first ones i picked up, and after it i kept finding myself comparing each one after to it. It just feels nice, it's simple. And imo i like there are no electronics. It's got great sound too. For the price i really dont think it can be beat.

My son has a Martin Billy Strings D28 he bought at GC and it is honestly one of the best sounding guitars I've ever heard but he was blown away at how good this FG800J sounded and played. It's perfect for my playing level but he made it talk. If you are on the fence, buy it!!!

The Yamaha FG800J is a great guitar for the price! It didn't require any setup other than tuning right out of the box. The tone is great and it's a joy to play. The slightly shorter fretboard scale makes for comfortable playing.
