Description

Warm Audio devoted ample time and effort to ensure their WA-87 R2 had that one-of-a-kind “Flower Power” sound, and that it followed suit to the original with rich tones and wide-range frequency capabilities. This multi-pattern condenser microphone boasts the iconic ‘60s vintage sound of its top-tier forerunner, the WA-87. The WA-87 R2 raised the bar for unique and vibey blasts (and construct) that made the ‘60s sound staple resonate once again, and it is available now at an amazing bargain.

A Faithful Circuit Recreation

The WA-87 R2 is built around the same circuit that made a particular 1960s condenser mic legendary. Warm Audio studied this vintage mic extensively to recreate its signature sound. The WA-87 R2 uses premium parts like a NOS Fairchild transistor and Wima film capacitors to achieve a remarkably faithful sonic replica of the original. A redesigned CineMag USA transformer provides improved frequency response and a higher-output level than the previous WA-87.

A Versatile Workhorse

Like the vintage mic that inspired it, the WA-87 R2 excels on nearly any source. Its three polar patterns—cardioid, omnidirectional and figure-8—offer flexibility for any recording need. An 80Hz high-pass filter eliminates unwanted low frequencies, while a –10dB pad allows recording louder sound sources without overloading the mic. The WA-87 R2 capably captures vocals, drums, guitars, piano, strings, brass and more with stunning realism.

A Refined Physical Design

The WA-87 R2 features a newly designed rounded wire mesh head basket that provides more open space around the mic capsule, resulting in an even smoother frequency response. Its heavier nickel-plated brass body lends a sense of quality and durability. An included wooden storage box helps protect the mic when not in use.

    Awesome mic. It won my pic vs a TF29 and a TLM103. Those two weren't much different than my NT1a but the WA87 is a whole new flavor! Everyone should know though, all these mics require a decent preamp, so start there.

    So far this thing sounds better than my Townsend L-22 ,I was told if I didn't like the mic I could return it within 14days ,I really wanted to have to return it but I sounded better than the L-22! A digital to analog sound in difference. The WA -87 sounded more natural and present than the L-22, I was really hoping that it was going to be the other way around so I could get another guitar but I still have the WA-87 R2 if that tells you anything..

    For the price this mic is better than any other mix I've tried at the same price point. The noise floor is very easy to work with and the mic offers a great warm sound. Definitely recommend it. Solid build quality.

    Any microphone will capture sound, but a voice artist or narrator depends on a microphone that makes the listener believe they are in the same room where a story is being told. A search for the ideal Voice Over microphone inevitably points to the cost prohibitive major studio standard microphones of legend. The same search may result in the exceedingly capable budget friendly microphones that are widely available in the age of content creation. The WA 87 R2 sits somewhere in the middle of these two options. The 87 R2 is a painstakingly crafted tribute to a legendary microphone that won't break the bank. Technical reviews of the microphone and its specifications can be found readily, but suffice it to say, the WA 87 is a microphone that will accurately and authentically reproduce a voice. The nuance the mic colors a voice with are complementary and never exaggerate high or low frequencies. For a low leaning baritone voice like mine, this microphone has cemented itself as a golden standard and my preference. Simply stated, the WA87 is versatile, gorgeous and extraordinarily detailed. It will capture your voice so your voice can capture imaginations.

    Hello, I'm considering buying this mic (87 r2) or the Wa47jr for Hiphop R&B / pop vocals. I wanted to get a second opinion on which mic has lower self noise and better for vocals. Thanks I appreciate the help!

    On paper, the 47 is a better mic and yes it will be better for vocals; it's tube. At these prices you need to ask yourself if you can hear the difference. Most consumers cannot.
