Description

Designed to capture the warm, vintage acoustics of the original “EB-circuit” 414-style microphone, Warm Audio offers the WA-14 tube condenser microphone, with much greater accessibility. Custom Reproduction Gives Pristine Sound

The custom, all brass, large CK12-style capsule, is a reproduction of the vintage capsule to bring you that sumptuous, authentic 414 “EB” sonic character. This capsule also produces a wide frequency response of 20Hz–20kHz with a midrange presence and a bright high-end for an added depth. To further supply a rounded and smooth sound, is the CineMag transformer, made in the USA to exacting standards this transformer delivers a true analog sound with plenty of coloration. Having WIMA, Solen French and polystyrene capacitors throughout, the WA-14 gives a reliable and balanced tone.

Vintage Acoustics With Accessible Features

After extensive research, Warm Audio decide to use a Gotham Audio GAC-7 cable. Learning about how 7-pin cables can reduce phase shift and increase top-end presence, Gotham Audio seemed the logical choice to partner with for their high-end, Swiss-produced cabling to provide the best sonic choice for this condenser mic. There are three polar patterns: cardioid, omni, and figure-8 all provide a balanced frequency response for ultimate versatility. With a bright top end and a rich low end, the WA-14 is a compelling option for anyone looking for that classic 414 “EB” sound.

    This is Warm audio's reproduction of the classic AKG 414. I have one WA-14 and two AKG 414's and there is barely any difference between them all. The best part is that Warm Audio's version is 1/4 of the price of the AKG's. I tend to use these on guitar amps and cabinets and have used them in acoustic guitar settings depending on the sound I'm looking for. Some engineers prefer them as a vocal mic or as drum overheads. They do work very well in situations when you are miking a room too. This works very well in live performance as well (something you wouldn't risk with a classic AKG 414) All in all this is a very versatile microphone and well worth the price offered. I should note that Warm Audio's design is based on the classic 1970's version and not the newer "updated" versions of the AKG 414 which don't have the same appeal in my opinion.

    This mic is great! The polar pattern switch makes it pretty versatile. I've used it vocals and electric guitar, so far. I was worried it wouldn't hold up to recording metal (dynamics are usually the go-to). But I am happily proven wrong! I haven't tried it as a drum room mic, but I assume it'll knock it out of the park like it did with the vocals, and guitars. I'm so happy with this, I'm going to order a second to use as overheads.
