AMAZING!!!!

The Sabian Omni Crash is the first of its kind. It is the only true crash-ride since it is able to be ridden on the thick, unlathed portion for dry, crisp, and cutting sound while you can still hit the thin, lathed edge for a piercing yet full crash sound that, unlike other crash-rides, does NOT interfere with the stick definition on the ride portion. This is the most innovative cymbal Sabian has released to date by a longshot; simply a must have for those looking for the perfect crash-ride.

Wonderful Cymbal But Not for Everyone

I was intrigued by the just the idea of the OMNI when I first saw an ad in Modern Drummer last year. It looked so cool and seemed to promise the world. Months go by, and I finally get one of my very own. This cymbal is incredible. It covers such a wide variety of tones and playing styles. However, it's just not a good fit for most drummers. The OMNI is not a cymbal that one can just throw into an existing set-up and expect it to blend well. My hope was to add it into my burgeoning fusion set-up (13" HH Fusion Hats, 12" AAX Mini Chinese, 16" AA Bright Crash, and 8" & 10" AAX Splashes) and eliminate the need of having separate right-side crash and ride cymbals. Despite being paired with the Bright Crash on the left, the crashing surface of the OMNI was far too bright and trashy. By comparison, the little 16" AA Bright Crash seems very dark. In order to make it work, a drummer would literally have to build around the OMNI, perhaps buying both the 18" and 22" models and the AAX El Sabor Hand crash from which it was derived. As with all AAX models it does seem to blend well with other AAX's -- non-AAXplosion models. My jazz/fusion set doesn't have enough real estate to accommodate the OMNI and the ride and crash cymbals that it was intended to replace. My big rock set up does have plenty of room for this 22" beast. It would make a great left-side ride/bright crash effect. The problem with putting it into a rock set-up is that it would get destroyed. The edge of this cymbal is among the thinnest I've ever played. When you combine that extra thin edge with a medium heavy bell and heavier Rock sized drumsticks, you have a recipe for a broken cymbal. So unless you plan on building a fusion, latin, or jazz set-up around the OMNI, it probably isn't a good fit for you.

    I use this AAX Omni mounted off of a snare stand for snare-only or snare and bass box small venues. I find it to be versatile with its shimmering crash near its edge and its solid ping on the unlathed surface.

    This cymbal is simply amazing. I've played drums for 20 plus years. In that time I've own around 10 rides and played countless. This is the the best. Great focused stick definition on the unfinished section, good bell and great non gong like crash. I've been searching for a new ride for the past six months, I've tried so many (all brands and models I could access). I love this cymbal

    THE SOUND is sooooo epic! with soft mallets I can create the most amazing crescendos! it has a surface I can get 10,000 tones and sounds from. The edge gives sweetness, a light tough brings amazing emotional twinges of high frequency when played with a plastic tipped stick. played with the edge of the stick gives a SHARP fast sound. the inner bell SPEAKS loudly and with authority. overall its AMAZING and my fav cymbal.

    I first started toying with the idea of getting one of these because the particular one I was looking at sounded fantastic. it crashes, rides and the bell is awesome. I now use it as my main ride. I love it. The only reason I give it a 4 star rating is because the sound of these things very so greatly from one to another. even though they are the same cymbal, they sound drastically different from one to the next. the salesman told me that the one I got is the best sounding one that they have had in the store for some time. After I bought mine and they replaced it with another (mine is a 22") I was comparing it and they guy was right. I could definately tell the difference between the two. Mine sounds fantastic and it is the ride that I now use at all my gigs. I would recommend this cymbal but I would also reccomend that you check it out in person before purchasing.
