No regrets on this Mitchell acoustic bass

I just bought this after reading reviews on this one as well as a few others that are similarly priced. In the store I picked up a Dean which I really liked but considering what I wanted an acoustic bass for, the Mitchell was the better choice for me. I can play the bass but I'm not a "bass player". I've spent way more time with 6 strings than I have 4 strings so the scale and size being closer to a 6 string acoustic was more suitable to me. There are a few comments about the slight lack of volume on this model. Keep in mind, it is definitely not concert sized so the volume is not going to be as loud as other full scale acoustic basses. The overall tone and playability is quite good for the price. The one I purchased was a display so I don't know what (if any) fine tuning was done at the store but I will say that the intonation is nearly spot on. I really like the overall darker open pour finish and dark binding that blends into the burst on the top. Great buy for the money and I'm definitely not disappointed!

Fun to play

My first acoustic bass. I am impressed by the quality Mitchell offers for such a reasonable price. However this bass was underwhelming at first, to me. It took a while for me to appreciate the look and feel of the instrument, a different finish (flat, dark, natural) than I am used to. But it's growing on me, and I kind of like it now. The bass played pretty well right out of the box. The action is low, which eases playing, but allows some fret buzz on louder notes. Because the guitar is not very loud acoustically, any string noises are very noticeable. I replaced the phosphor bronze strings that came on it with a set of stainless steel flatwounds, and it plays better and is less noisy that way, for me. Did not notice a significant drop in acoustic volume, but as mentioned it is not a loud acoustic bass anyway, nothing like an upright for example. Barely enough to keep up with an acoustic guitar. But it is fun to play, and loud enough to hear yourself. The acoustic tone is warm and well balanced. Haven't tried plugging it in yet. I would give it four stars, except mine makes a slight buzz from something resonating on certain loud notes. Not a deal killer for me, since it's my first acoustic bass and mostly for fun. Fits the bill on that, for me. It's found a home.

    I played it at church and it works great for traditional music. I've received more compliments since using it than I have on any of many other basses. Great sound, even the guys in the store were impressed when plugged into an amp.

    I have only had this bass for a couple weeks but I love it. Only negative is the 4th string rattles but I'm pretty sure that's user error. Sounds great through amp too. Much better than the cheap electric Rogue I had borrowed to see if I'd even like the bass

    I was in my nearest guitar center on 6-23-24, they had 5 of these acoustic basses on a display stand all were marked scratch and dent special, all had bad neck joints as marked by the store.

    Are there no provisions for mounting a strap? There don't appear to be any strap buttons in the photos.
