Description

The Marshall Origin50H is an all-valve 50W guitar amp head that gives players a blend of vintage and modern tones in a portable package. The Origin50H features a unique tilt control that lets you blend bright and normal sounds for a range of tones from clean to crunchy. The three ECC83 preamp tubes and two EL34 power tubes generate a rich, harmonic tone that pairs well with pedals or stands on its own.

Tilt Control Provides a Range of Vintage and Modern Tones

The Origin50H's standout feature is its tilt control, which lets you blend bright and normal sounds for a range of tones from vintage to modern. Roll the Tilt control clockwise for a brighter tone with chimey highs, ideal for clean and lightly overdriven sounds. Turn it counterclockwise for a warmer, fuller tone with rich mids, perfect for higher-gain crunch and lead tones. The tilt control gives you a versatile amp head that can produce a variety of coveted tube amp tones.

Reduce Power for Bedroom Levels or Crank to 50W

While the Origin50H pumps out a robust 50W of power, it also has switchable 5W and 10W modes so you can get cranked tube tone at lower volumes. The power reduction features make this an ideal amp for practice, recording and gigging. When you're ready to cut through a full band, just switch over to the 50W mode for a volume boost.

Shape Your Tone With 3-Band EQ and Presence

In addition to its wide range of sounds, the Origin50H gives you full control over your tone with bass, middle, treble and presence controls. Boost the bass and treble for a V-shaped tone that cuts through the mix or scoop the mids for a classic rock sound. Add presence to enhance high-frequency detail. The EQ provides the tools you need to craft your perfect tone.

The Origin50H comes with useful features for live playing and jamming like an FX loop to integrate your pedals and a footswitchable boost for solos. My first Marshall, and I love it.

The cabinet used is a Park G412B, a Marshall made copy of their own 1960B cab. It is rated at 140 watts and loaded with 4 Celestion G12L 35 watt speakers. It is a very nice cab if I do say so myself. I play mostly blues and classic rock, with a little jazz thrown in to break it up The Origin 50 is proving to be very much to my liking. I find that the sound I am really enjoying is produced by setting (left to right) the power to 50 watts, Presence to 2, Master to 8, Treble to 6, Middle to 4, Bass to 6, Tilt to 0 (the equivalent of the Channel 1 plug on Old Marshalls) and Gain to 3. This combination gives me a pleasant Marshall clean that goes just to the level of dirt I'm looking for when one of the gain pedals is kicked in. With these settings and using the Tele shown, the volume runs in the 97 to 102 dB range when the guitar is turned all the way up, loud enough to sound good but still usable in my house. . The amp does not have reverb, but adding in reverb from my MXR Reverb pedal provides the depth I want with no issue. Bringing in some delay as well can make it really sound big. Chorus, Phaser and Flanger all sound excellent when used with it. Turning the gain up results in a recognizable Marshall crunch when set to 5. Bring the Master up to full adds some more to it and with both cranked and the Tilt set to 12 o'clock the thing screams like a cranked Marshall is expected to with the dB meter reading 119 to 122 at the 1 meter distance I use for measurement. A more efficient speaker would make it unreal. Mixing it wet/dry with my Blues Deluxe makes me want to sit and play all day and night, but for the time being, I am spending most of my time with it exploring different settings combinations and looking for the best possible combination for each of my guitars. If you want to get a good vintage Marshall sound at a more than reasonable price, check one of these out when you can, then exercise your inner Eric or Jimi.

Failed just before 30 days

This amp sounds so good and that great marshall sound. However, after having it for just under 30 days, the sound completely shut off. It turned on but no sound. Tested with another cab to no avail. Maybe I got a lemon, but I'm worried if I was to get another one that I would end up with the same problem, unluckily AFTER the return date. It's a gamble for me. I'm thinking about the DSL line instead or a completely different brand altogether.

    Alone or with effects this amp is seriously a great sounding, great feeling amp! I prefer just a cable and a guitar or maybe an overdrive pedal in front for a little added clipping. It is all the Marshall with modern features and none of the ridiculous price tag. Here it is: Buy one; you won't regret it. Buy the matching Marshall cabinet, and the 50's Gibson Les Paul or SG to go with it-you will love it!

    Great simple Marshall. It's loud! Running through a 212 cabinet, using the built in attenuator on the middle setting, it's perfect for small bar or pub gigs. Full power is really loud! The ample is really easy to use, with only a few controls. It has a great clean sound and takes pedals really well. To get that classic Marshall crunch, you have to crank the gain and master volume to 2-3 o'clock. While that sounds good, I think the amp is a better pedal platform.

    Great Marshall tones! Dont go comparing this thing to a 3k Marshall. Its a good amp to start off with and get some of the old school rock - no metal in this box
