Description

The Meinl Byzance Vintage Sand Hi-Hat Set's sandblasted surface, various hammering techniques, and noticeable weight difference between the top and bottom cymbals combine to create an unmistakably crispy and articulate sound.

The transfer of the Sand Ride sound concept to a hi-hat has managed to combine a vintage sound and look with a modern transparent sound and clarity. The Sand Hat is a fantastic all-around hi-hat with lots of finesse and character, sporting a clear sound without being obtrusive. Full of nuances and presence, the Sand Hat can range from a silent whispering sound to a full sonic statement.

Benny Greb, who is proud to claim this set as his signature hat, calls it the most musical hi-hat he's ever heard.

Benny Greb is a prolific German drummer and clinician. He plays a large variety of music and has played rock with Stoppok and The Ron Speilman Trio, jazz with The Benny Greb Brass Band and Sabri Tulug Tirpan, funk with Jerobeam, reggae with Bobby McFerrin, classical with the NDR Orchestra on their Frank Zappa Project, fusion with 3ergezimmer and Wayne Krantz, and acoustic punk with Strom & Wasser.

    I agree with I wouldn't advise spending lots of money on high end cymbals such as Meinl. I advise you to go tho the store cause not all cymbals sound the same you might like it on video but when you get it on your set it doesn't quite hit the mark....

    I have been playing an A Custom Bottom and a New Beat top for a while (2 years) before that combo I played regular A Customs. I was really into higher pitched hats. I never dove in and got a 13" pair. Anyways I wanted a "chunkyer" hi hat sound a little "beef" kind of so I chose to get an a new beat top. I almost got a K top but the ones I tried did not quite sound right for me. So I got the New Beat Top and used it with my A custom bottom. This sound was a bit better but I wanted more "chunk" the A Bottom was a bit too hi pitched. So the other day on Facebook (FB) Market Place someone was selling a "near mint" condition pair of "Sand Hats". I bought them from the dude for a good price. SANDHATS REVIEW HERE START HERE: The sand hats have a very uinque sound not quite like one I have ever heard. They are chucky, raw, beefy, dark and full . BUT the TOP HAT is a bit too thin (soft) for me. I like my A New Beat Top better. It is more responsive and has a tighter feel in the open and especially closed hat. The BOTTOM HAT: is thicker and sounds more earthy, and raw than the A Custom bottom I was using. Final thoughts: I found my sound for a beefy, crispy hi hat tone with an A New Beat Top and a Meinl Sand Hat Bottom. The Sand Hats are cool unique, earthy, raw, soft ect..

    These hi hats are great, but I would recommend playing them in-store rather than purchasing them online. Each pair is totally unique in their sound and in their finish. They typically sound dry and warm.. I was surprised at how well they could be play loudly. They respond very well to all different styles of music in a unique way. However if you are playing heavy cymbals that have more "cut", these hats may not be the best idea.. Definitely give them a hear though.
