I'm not easily impressed...

As I stated in the title, I'm not easily impressed. But, I just got my GA35CTE about an hour ago, pulled it out of the box, plugged it into my AG Stomp and Acoustisonic amp, tuned it up, and started playing. Well, I am not only impressed, but I dig it. It looks great and sounds pretty amazing. I've been looking for a hybrid type nylon to supplement my playing, but didn't want to spend a lot of money. At least not until I had a chance to see what I could do with it. I had a 20% off coupon, so I took a chance and ordered this guitar, sight unseen, never played one before, based solely on design, size, price, reviews, and the Ibanez name. I've tested many, but have never played one in this price range that even comes close. I can't say how it will sound and look a year from now, but at this point I would definitely recommend it for all players from beginner to professional (there's always a place for a guitar like this in anybody's guitar stable). The only negative is that it is being touted as using AA batteries...not so. Mine takes a 9 volt battery like the rest of my guitars and basses. I rate this guitar as a 4.5, but only because of the battery difference.

OK guitar but there are so many better options

Bought this guitar over a year ago when I was looking for a nylon to add to my steel string collection. At first I liked it, but needed to plug it in to get anything like a decent sound. So I guess I learned how to adapt to a nylon string on this Ibanez. Then I tried out and bought a Taylor 12-en and a Cordoba Orchestra CE. Oh what a difference in sound. Much richer and expressive. The Ibanez sounded shallow and best I can describe as "squeaky". I tried different strings both hard tension and lights but not much difference. Actually the hard tension sounded worse. Ok the Taylor and Cordoba are more than double the price - but so much better. I think the thin line body on the Ibanez really is a problem played without amplification. And I learned later that it has a laminate top. So as a first Nylon the Ibanez is ok. But my recommendation to anyone is spend a little more, the sound and general playability are worth it with a Taylor or Cordoba.

    I plug it into a Bose S1 or Bose Compact, with a few minimal effects. It's easy to play and carry, and everything works, although the tuning machines are not the best; fortunately, the built-in tuner is right there. Certainly a good value.

    Solid Spruce top with laminated back and sides in mahogany, cutaway for reaching the higher frets, nylon strings and a neck that is thinner widthwise than a normal "classical" guitar. The onboard electronics include a tuner as well as volume, treble and bass tone knobs and a phase button. The fretboard inlay markers are not centered on the board but shifted to the top which adds an interesting look.

    This Ibanez GA 35 is so very well balanced, and has one of the more comfortable necks I have played. It's quality at this price point is pretty impressive. Obviously not for a Blues Rock gigs, even though we can handle that material… It's my main guitar for small gatherings, or porch picking.

    I really like this guitar. It is the biggest bang for the buck in my opinion. Stage worthy. I pick up this guitar before I pick up my Steve Wariner SW341SC and my Taylor 214ce. I'm liking the nylon string sound. Everyone I show this guitar to…their eyes light up!
