Fell in love with the color of this bass and had to bring it home. Didn't hurt that the neck fast and not a high fret to be found. The sound is what I was looking for in a jazz bass and no single coil hum. Took it from the store to a jam with a friend. Still had the plastic on it but I had to play the new toy and it did not let me down.

I needed a good bass for recording, and something to grab for gigs - I wanted something with visual appeal. This delivered. Rolled edges feel nice, no fret sprout, the workmanship is excellent. I'm glad I waited til Player II came around, I just really prefer the rosewood to any laurel or pau ferro, I'm 50 years old so I like what I like! Doesn't come with a gig bag or case, have one ready to go if you wanna bring it home from the store 'cause you'll wanna baby this thing. This is the 3rd Fender I've owned, my previous were a Standard Precision PJ and a Precision Blacktop with humbuckers. My first Jazz bass, so I decided to invest in a long-term instrument. I'm very pleased with how it came out of the box, and next step is to get it setup.

For perspective, I am 53 and just picked up the bass in my later 30s. In my bass guitar journey I first did the Ibanez starter box and was very pleased with that for years...then, I needed something more. I kept trading (up) in my bass guitars thinking I wanted this style pickup or that style body or headstock even. I never left a review of any of them as it wasn't the guitars fault I wasn't in love with them, they were as exactly as described, I just didn't know what I wanted in a guitar...until now. No, this guitar is not for everyone, nor is it trying to be. It's a classic shape in a classic color. Minimalistic look in single coil and knobs, but that's why I chose this bass. I like the look of the darker wood neck. There is no neck dive as was with my Thunderbird. It does not weigh a ton like my previous Fender. The color (3-Color Sunburst) really resonates with me in person, as did my first Schecter, but the electronics went out in that one and the replacements were never the same color again. But this guitar? Visually - it's perfect for me. Weight, perfect - there, but not overburdening. Playability - feels like my fingers can dance along the fretboard - they can't, but if I knew what I was doing it would be dangerous. Sound - yep. As soon as I plucked that first string it played low and long, sustain is the most I have ever had, like I noticed I actually have to mute strings now, wild. I still don't get to play as much as I would like, but when I do she just feels right and it's good know she is there.
