Amazing sound for acoustic guitar and/or voice.

A friend I met at some jam sessions was using the A20. It sounded so much better than any I had heard when attached to acoustic electric dreadnaught. I played my Martin 0015 thru it and really liked the sound. Stopped by my closest Guitar Center (OKC) and lo they had one new in box, but none on display. I asked the sales associate about the reviewed hiss/noise problem. He indicated had not been a problem before at this store. It just happened to be on sale, so I bought one. My Alvarez also sounds great thru the A20. I am certainly not a pro but can't imagine getting a better acoustic amp for this very low price. (I have not yet used A20 for 20 hours, but have used at home and at two different jam sessions. I simply don't hear the noise or hiss other reviewers warn about.

White Noise a deterrent

I liked a whole lot of things about this A20 amp except for the unusually loud hiss (as mentioned by another reviewer). I showed up with an audio interface, mic cable and headset in order to check out the DI output on the back. With the pre/post switch in post position, the hiss was unbearable even with the treble control at normal 12 o'clock position. This is an issue if you are sending a signal to a board, because you will HAVE to send it pre-EQ. I opted for the older AG30 acoustic guitar amp for its warm and big sound, and solid build with no hiss whatsoever. The downside is that it is twice as heavy as the A20. But quality won out over convenience on this choice. Too bad, Acoustic, you had a great idea, but obviously no one bench tested it before distribution. For those that could care less about extraneous hiss and just play loud all the time, the A20 might just be thing for you. But for those of us that play acoustic/electric and appreciate clear and attractive audio quality at ANY volume, the A20 will prove to be problematic. The AG30 may not be carried by Guitar Center all that much as it is now a legacy product. But if you can get your hands on one (and don't mind the 44.5 lbs) you won't be sorry.

    If you need a nice acoustic amp with enough power to drive your gear, this is what you need. Plenty of adjustments and nice sounds.

    This amp has a very warm balanced cleen sound. Two great uses: I can go to any town or park and place this amp under a park bench, plug into a jackedry lithium power battery , plug in my acoustic guitar and wireless head mic and play for the public all day. The sound is perfect and can be heard within a block, but never to loud or distorted. Also great to sing sinatra karaeoke with clean backing tracks, singing to the room without a microphone. It is for small intimate gatherings. I play a lot of James Taylor and the amplification showcases the finger picking in public places. It's a gem.

    Is this amp good enough to play an electric guitar through...? Not metal or anything too heavy but more garagy/jangly/indie rock style music??

    Yes, the Acoustic A20 20W Acoustic Guitar Amplifier can be used with an electric guitar, but with some important limitations, especially for the style you're aiming for: Pros: Clean tone: Acoustic amps are voiced for clarity and full-range sound, so your jangly/indie rock tones will come through clearly, especially if you're not looking for heavy distortion. Built-in effects: The A20 has onboard effects like chorus and reverb, which can suit jangly/ambient sounds well. Cons: No amp overdrive or breakup: Unlike electric guitar amps, the A20 doesn't have gain stages designed to overdrive or give that tube-y grit. So you won’t get any natural amp breakup or crunchy textures without pedals. Not voiced for electric guitar: Acoustic amps emphasize a flat, full-range sound. This can make electric guitars sound sterile or overly bright without EQ adjustments or pedals.

    Yes, the A20 has two inputs. If you use both inputs for microphones, there won't any room for a guitar.

    hey i bought one of these, i also have a mackie thump go. i want to connect it to my thump and use the acoustic amp as a monitor. the issue i'm having i cant hear the reverb from the acoustic amp in the thump go, i can only hear it in the acoustic. i am using the xlr output on the back of the acoustic amp. is it possible to use the reverb with the output.

    I am an at home player only. I own this amp and enjoy it with my Martin acoustic. I just purchased a Epi Les Paul electric. Will it work well that also?

    Yes, it will work. It's not voiced to the solid body electric but it will work.
