EarthQuaker Devices Scrolls Bass Odyssey EQ and Overdrive Pedal - Black

Description
The EarthQuaker Devices Scrolls Bass Odyssey EQ and overdrive pedal gives bass players an all-analog tone-shaping platform built around drive, active EQ and flexible routing. Designed in collaboration with Japanese bassist Kentaro Nakao, Scrolls combines tube amp-like distortion with clean-signal blending, frequency-focused clipping control and a full active EQ section with Bass, Middle, Treble, Variable Frequency, Deep, Process and Bright controls. Its effects loop sits between the drive and EQ stages, allowing modulation, delay or other pedals to be placed after gain while still letting the final EQ section shape the full signal. Rounded out by a buffered parallel output, balanced XLR direct output, ground lift and standard 1/4" output, Scrolls is built for bassists who need one pedal to handle amp rigs, direct recording and modern ampless bass setups.
Tube Amp-Like Drive With Clean Blend Control
The right side of Scrolls centers on a drive section voiced for tube-style saturation while preserving the weight and clarity of the bass signal. The Blend control mixes clean and overdriven signal, making it possible to add grit without losing fundamental low end, while the Bandwidth control changes where distortion is most emphasized. Turned counterclockwise, it emphasizes warmer low-frequency clipping; turned clockwise, it shifts toward tighter, more focused high-frequency clipping. Level, Drive and Tone controls round out the section, giving bassists direct control over output, gain intensity and top-end rolloff.
Active EQ With Variable Frequency Control
The EQ side provides active Bass, Middle and Treble controls with center-detented flat positions, making it easy to cut or boost key parts of the bass signal. Its Variable Frequency section works across approximately 20Hz to 10kHz, allowing players to target low-end buildup, midrange definition or high-frequency presence with more precision than a fixed EQ point. Three push-button voicing tools expand the section further: Deep adds an 80Hz boost, Process creates a low-mid scoop for a more modern sound and Bright adds a 5kHz boost for extra attack and clarity.
Flexible Routing for Amps, Pedalboards and Direct Setups
Scrolls is designed for practical routing as much as tone shaping. The internal signal path places drive before EQ, with a hardwired effects loop between those sections so external pedals can sit after distortion while still feeding the final EQ stage. A buffered Parallel Out sends an always-active clean signal to an amp, DI, tuner or separate pedal chain, while the balanced XLR direct output includes analog filtering to approximate the character of a bass speaker cabinet in amp-free setups. Plus, a ground lift switch helps manage hum when running direct. Built one at a time by EarthQuaker Devices in Akron, Ohio, the EarthQuaker Devices Scrolls Bass Odyssey pedal gives bassists an all-in-one platform for drive, EQ shaping, direct output and flexible live or studio routing.
