Epiphone Les Paul Custom P-90 Electric Guitar: FAQ

How do P-90 pickups differ from humbuckers?
P-90s are single-coil pickups known for articulate attack and pronounced midrange character. Compared with humbuckers, they can produce more electrical hum, particularly when playing with higher levels of gain.

Is the Epiphone Les Paul Custom P-90 good for blues and rock?
Yes. Its dual P-90 pickups provide the articulate attack and pronounced midrange response that work well for clean, overdriven and lead tones across blues and rock styles.

Does the Epiphone Les Paul Custom P-90 include a case?
No. A case is sold separately.

Available exclusively at Guitar Center, the Epiphone Les Paul Custom P-90 electric guitar pairs classic Custom construction and appointments with the distinctive response of dual soapbar pickups. A mahogany body with maple top and set mahogany neck establish the familiar Les Paul foundation, while a 60s SlimTaper profile and ebony fingerboard provide a comfortable playing surface across 22 frets. Two Epiphone P-90 soapbar pickups deliver articulate single-coil attack and pronounced midrange character, with independent volume and tone controls for shaping each pickup. LockTone hardware, Epiphone Deluxe tuners and a Graph Tech nut complete this Guitar Center Exclusive take on the Les Paul Custom.

Classic Les Paul Construction With P-90 Character

A mahogany body with maple top gives the Les Paul Custom P-90 its traditional solidbody foundation, complemented by a set mahogany neck and ebony fingerboard. Rather than the dual-humbucker configuration commonly associated with the Les Paul Custom, this model uses two Epiphone P-90 soapbar pickups for a more immediate single-coil response. Their articulate attack and pronounced midrange character suit everything from clean rhythm work to overdriven leads, giving this familiar Custom platform a distinctive amplified voice.

60s SlimTaper Neck and Ebony Fingerboard

The set mahogany neck features a 60s SlimTaper profile designed for a streamlined feel in the fretting hand. Its 24.75" scale maintains familiar Les Paul proportions, while the 12"-radius ebony fingerboard provides a smooth playing surface for chords, bends and lead work. Twenty-two frets and block inlays complete the traditional layout, combining classic Les Paul Custom styling with a neck profile suited to players who prefer a slimmer feel.

Independent Controls Shape Two P-90 Voices

Each Epiphone P-90 soapbar pickup has dedicated volume and tone controls, providing independent adjustment of the neck and bridge voices. The 3-way toggle offers quick access to either pickup or both together, allowing players to move from warmer neck sounds to the bridge pickup's more focused attack or blend the two in the middle position. The traditional four-knob Les Paul layout keeps those tonal adjustments immediately accessible without adding complexity to the instrument.

Custom Appointments Complete the Classic Presentation

Traditional Les Paul Custom appointments give the model a refined visual identity that complements its distinctive pickup configuration. Binding outlines the body and ebony fingerboard, while block inlays reinforce the familiar Custom aesthetic. A gloss finish, Epiphone Deluxe tuning machines and coordinated hardware complete the presentation, pairing the upscale visual language of a Les Paul Custom with the contrasting look of two exposed soapbar pickups.

LockTone Hardware Supports a Familiar Fixed-Bridge Setup

A LockTone ABR bridge provides individual intonation adjustment, while the matching stopbar tailpiece securely anchors the strings in a familiar Les Paul configuration. Epiphone Deluxe tuners provide precise tuning adjustment, with a Graph Tech nut completing the string path. Combining this straightforward hardware with a 60s SlimTaper neck and dual P-90 electronics, the Epiphone Les Paul Custom P-90 offers players a Guitar Center Exclusive alternative to the traditional humbucker-equipped Custom.

Very good

I don't know how to rate this guitar, please read on. First off, this is nothing but an Epi Les Paul custom routed for p90's. So the neck is a slim taper, I've seen comments about a thick neck? This doesn't have that. I say it's more like a flat D. It is no where close to a 50's. If I had to guess I'd say it's more like a fender American pro II (.870 to .900) neck but flatter at the back, (hence a flat D profile). 2nd, the fit and finish is perfect. No fret sprout, nicks, dings, etc. nut is fine. Tuners are 15:1, which is fine for a fixed bridge. 3rd (and this is why IDK how to rate the guitar) the PUPS sound AWESOME, when you're playing. When you're sitting there the 60cycle hum is INSANE! And the middle position is NOT hum cancelling. So you have to ride the volume as soon as you're done playing, unless you use a noise gate, which I don't have. So, if you are a new player and are trying to place fingers, make chords, reading music sheets, etc and the guitar is going to be idle turn the volumes down or look somewhere else. If you are an experienced player who will pick it up, plug it in and play then go for it. Me? I've been playing for about 3 years so I'm stuck inbetween. Luckily I'm an electronic tech and can solder so I'm probably going to replace these with something hum cancelling (again they sound AWESOME when playing). So how do I rate this? IDK, the guitar is perfect in every way, fit, finish, sound, EXCEPT for the hum (which p90's are prone too, well all single coils but p90's seem worse Lol). I'm going to give it a 4. But, it's really a 5. I guess it just depends what level a guitar player you are. Experienced/pro I can't recommend enough. A new player whose learning probably a 3, just for the hum.

Can't say if I would buy again as it still hasn't arrived...

I've played since 10 years old (over 40 years). I own and have owned many Les Paul's over the years, both Gibson and Epi. l played this one in the store and it was only surpassed by a mid to late 70's Gibson Deluxe model I had that was stolen back in the late 80's at a gig. Made the decision to go back and get it the next day and it had been sold. This is a lesson I knew but yet again... If you have played long enough you know 2 of the same exact model and spec will be 2 different guitars. Sometimes the stars align, the wood is just the right age, grain density, dryness, whatever, it just sings and plays like a dream. Yeah, I walked out without it and it was gone the next day. So I ordered it online and hope lightning strikes twice. Not off to a good start as there are shipping issues. Hence the score which is not a reflection of the guitar but of the initial handling of the shipping as well as the follow-up call and an online chat as well. I'm now being asked to start payments (did the interest free financing) on an instrument I haven't received yet and nobody so far can tell me when I will receive it. It was ordered to deliver to my local store.

This was not on my radar but it caught my eye and after trying it out I ended uip purchasing it. The fit and finish are good, no sharp frets and I like the sound of the P-90 pickups. It did require a quick setup to get the action to my liking. Great looking, great sounding axe.

Had mine for almost a year now. But i'll tell you now that I never thought that a single coil Les Paul would have so much character. The P-90's offer more output than I was looking for, but because of the audio tapered pots most of the adjustments are in the sweet spot by default. The neck and fretwork is very good. The electronics feel and sound incredible, I use every spot in between, so there's no sense in upgrading the electronics. Note: I did put a drop of heavy silicone oil in the pickup selector switch, now it's smooth and quiet. NOTE: This guitar is "alive", so yea, there is a lot of noise when plugged into an amp at higher gain settings. But it's only annoying when you're not playing!

I'm always apprehensive purchasing a Chinese made guitar, but the quality is outstanding on this model. The sound and playability is superb. At this price point, I can't think of a better guitar.
