Keeley is the kind of success story that the music industry deserves: the combination of passion, technical expertise and craftsmanship that delivers some of the best sound in the business. For Keeley, that business is effects pedals. Founded in 2001, Keeley is far from the oldest player in the effects industry, but it did not take long for the company to make a name for itself, finding its way onto the pedalboards of musicians as well-known as Brad Paisley and Peter Frampton.
Robert Keeley founded the business shortly after graduating from Oklahoma University with a degree in electrical engineering. He had planned to build amplifiers at first, but with so many already on the market, he felt his talents would be better applied to something else—so he turned to effects units, gaining experience by rebuilding and modifying other designs until he was ready to launch his own series of original pedals. Keeley released his first design, a boost pedal, and went on to become one of the most recognizable names in effects, running with the likes of Mike Piera and Mike Fuller.
Always turning to the community for inspiration, Keeley has even gone so far as to reference discussion forums to find out just what guitarists were saying about their effects. Using that feedback direct from actual musicians, Keeley created the Katana Clean Boost as the company's first homebrewed design, a preamp pedal that has since graced the boards of Billy Gibbons and Dan Spitz.
Today, Keeley is best known for its compressor pedal, but the company makes a whole selection of different effects to let you express your creativity with the guitar. Keeley effects units range from familiar choices like wah and fuzz to more exotic effects such as the Phaser, Lunar Overdrive or Katana pedals. Naturally, a player's assortment of effects comes down to personal preference, but you can expect the same build quality and performance no matter which Keeley pedals you choose to try.
