Comments about Ibanez RGA series RGAR42MFMT Electric Guitar:

I've had my eye on these for a while now but decided to pick one up after Christmas and I'm very glad I did. I play many different types of music and while the stock pickups aren't perfect, they are pretty darn good. Dialed back a little the neck will give a nice warm clean tone while the out of phase produces a nice strum oriented sound. The bridge is hot but not to brittle, compared to the old INF stock pickups these are fantastic, almost as good as the old S series.

The reason I purchased though was for the neck (can always replace pickups right?). The unfinished / satin neck feels amazingly smooth. The maple fretboard (yes, from mine it looks to be truly a maple fretboard on a maple neck, not 1 solid piece of maple - this is a good thing IMHO) is as smooth as glass and the frets on the one they pulled out of the box for me at the store a perfect. All are very smooth, no rough spots and the edges look exactly like the "rolled" edges on my premium JEM.

I've been playing my single cut guitars a lot the past year but I simply can't seem to put this one down. I was initially concerned with the trem. I love the original Edge and the Low Pro but had some bad experiences with a mid priced Ibanez about 4 years ago. This one, it's still called the Edge III, works great so far. A little string stretching, minor trem adjustment and its stayed in tune with a lot of playing for over a week.

If you want a great mid priced guitar with good stock pickups that stays in tune, pick this up. You will love the neck. If you think you need to spend twice as much to get a great feeling maple fretboard, you don't.

Comments about Ibanez RGA series RGAR42MFMT Electric Guitar:

I've only been playing about a year... but I am taking it very seriously. I started with a cheapo "kit" guitar and quickly moved to a Schecter Demon 6FR. I've loved the Demon since day 1. Since then I've bought and/or traded for the following: Schecter Hellraiser Solo II, EVH Wolfgang Standard, Fender Showmaster, Ibanez Artcore, Schecter Banshee Extreme, and an Epiphone Les Paul Standard.

Here is what I can tell you: This Ibanez RGAR42MFMT has quickly become my favorite of all! The tones are FANTASTIC (5 position switch provides 5 unique tones). I play through a Kustom HV30 tube amp - and I can get everything I need from Metallica tone to great cleans and everything in between with this setup and this guitar.

So compared to everything else I've owned, this one gives me the most range of tones - and I *really* like them, and this one is the most comfortable to play - it's very light weight and shaped to play! Oh, and it has the best sustain of all my guitars. And... most importantly for me: ZERO fret buzz with low action. I bought the guitar off the wall at GC, so I am not sure if they had it set up or what - but it was set up perfectly off the wall. Every other guitar I have/had has at least some fret buzz, but this one has zero.

So to make a short story long: This is my favorite guitar because it has great tones, feels great, looks great, and has zero fret buzz. One last thing, I actually like the Ibanez locking tremolo better than a Floyd Rose because the fine tuners have more play room (they are "taller"). The Schecter Demon 6FR is a pretty close 2nd place, for many of the same reasons (but it has fret buzz, but not through the amp, if I bang the strings to hard) and the neck on the Schecter has a slight gloss on the back which sometimes makes it a little sticky. The Ibanez neck is smooth as butter. I guess I'd say this Ibanez beats out the Demon 6 by just a little bit in every category - except perhaps the looks, where I'd give the Schecter a slight edge.

Comments about Ibanez RGA series RGAR42MFMT Electric Guitar:

Main thing that disappointed me about this guitar is the fact that it's such a nice instrument for the price that you pay for, but the finish is pretty poor quality. It looks kind of like a 14 year old spray painted it in his garage. Other than that, the pick ups aren't too shabby, the tone is nice, it has a solid feel and it's fun to play.

This guitar is a must have. It's light weight, it sounds amazing, and it looks beautiful. Thanks to the double locking on this guitar, you will be able to play and not get out of tune.

Comments about Ibanez RGA series RGAR42MFMT Electric Guitar:

As a classic metalhead, this guitar is perfect. The trem is great for dive bombs and stays in place and isn't too loose like the on on my Jackson Kelly. The finish makes the wood shine through and gives it a real 70s look and is absolutely gorgeous. The sound is wide and full and the neck pickups are incredible. Very warm and nice sound. This baby has some crunch as well, and it makes power chords rip through the air on the bridge pickup. The neck is beautiful and as with most Ibanez solid body electrics, the Headstock looks sick. The locking system is great, as the tuning nuts on the bridge are really tall and it makes fine tuning easier than on other Floyd roses I've used. Incredible guitar and I'm very happy with my purchase.

Comments about Ibanez RGA series RGAR42MFMT Electric Guitar:

This is overall a great guitar but I have some small grips. The low E string does resonate some with power cords and faster play. Also the high E string will hang on the frets from time to time. Maybe angling the frets on the high end could help with this. This guitar is a lot of fun to play and practice on. It would work fine to play in a band and probably even record with but I'm not a professional player. I look forward to jamming on it and my son is playing now because of his experience with the Ibanez RG series guitar.

I've been playing guitar for about 2 years now. This has very good sound quality. The quality of the guitar as a whole is outstanding. The neck is made from maple, you will be able to slide up and down the neck with ease. This guitar is light weight (about the same as my Epiphone Les Paul spec II LE). Tuning the guitar can be a bit of a pain, but once you learn how to properly tune it, you'll be all set. This guitar will not disappoint.

Comments about Ibanez RGA series RGAR42MFMT Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar for my first electric, and I can say that I am not disappointed. One of my favorite features is the 24 frets, which allows for extra range when shredding. I will practice several hours everyday, and I can easily do it on this guitar. The pickups are very effective, and allows for a clear tone. It also has locking nuts for better intonation (but don't forget to loosen them before tuning because I have broken a few strings in store). This guitar also includes a whammy bar, and a cable, for more versatility and accessibility. Finally, this guitar looks very cool, as looks can be very important to any musician.
However, one complaint I do have is that whenever I try to adjust to a different tuning, the guitar does not want to stay in tune, and it takes me at least 20 minutes to get the strings to settle. I don't know if it the strings or the guitar itself, but it's rather annoying. Other than that, the guitar is great!

Comments about Ibanez RGA series RGAR42MFMT Electric Guitar:

Went to GC to kill a few hours with no plan to buy a new guitar. I have about a dozen guitars at home from 12 string acoustics to high end Gibson LP electrics. I am a home hobbyist guitar player who has been playing for about 30 years. I have been looking at getting a "shred" type guitar for a while. Jackson's mostly. I happened to see this Ibanez in the blue color and got drawn in to pick it up. I don't normally like satin or flat finishes at all but this guitar is/was a real stunner. I plugged the guitar into an amp and spend about an hour with it. I couldn't believe the action and the feel of the neck. It was extremely easy to play with no fret buzz and what feels like a super wide radius neck. The floating Trem is new to me although I have several original Floyd Rose equipped guitars. I like it! So far it stays in tune surprisingly well and for now I see no need to upgrade it. The pickups are a bit hot but in a good way. Very nice tone and not harsh at all. Overall, I am extremely pleased with this guitar - and not just because it's inexpensive. It is truly a well built guitar that plays and sounds very good. I would recommend this to anyone.
