Comments about Yamaha FG Series FGX800C Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I was planning to upgrade from my Dean Performer E, which I had purchased used from Guitar Center in Springfield NJ.

I ended up selecting the Yamaha unexpectedly after playing guitars that cost twice the price for 2 hours. If you're interested, here's my selection story:

I went back to the Guitar Center where I bought the Dean to look at a Taylor 114CE, a used Breedlove Stage and brand new Pursuit Bubinga. I also played some Martin guitars (to me sounded muddy).
I was really gunning for the used Breedlove Stage because it was a $1,000 guitar going for just $550, but I felt as though I could barely hear it from my playing position. Plugged in it sounded great, but horrible by itself. Kept getting out of tune, also. I tried out a Stage Concert, which sounded better, but still not there. Epiphone Masterbilt... Interesting but overkill on electronics and not great (a pin was popping out- looked like dimensions were wrong). Taylor 114CE. Wow, now that's a guitar! I was mentally settling into the $600 and about to go with the Taylor, but something still didn't seem right. Taylor is bright, clear, good volume at player's position, superb projection, but I wasn't picking up on decent low end.
In my role as worship leader at my church, I'm occasionally the only non-percussion instrument, so I need solid high, mid, and low-end sound. Balance is not an option. So I decided to experiment, think outside the box. I lowered my sights a bit. Tried an Ovation Applause. Had my eyes on an Ovation Elite Spalted Maple online (gorgeous!) But I wanted to feel what the rounded back was all about. Ovation- beautiful sound, even unplugged it's great! Couldn't deal with that slight upward tilt from the bowl...
So then there was this Yamaha. Never even considered a Yamaha. Played a few chords... Wow, that's rich (deep). Finger picking, clear. Electronics superb. AMF notch type filter. Amazing buttery neck. Played 30 minutes, put on a capo. Nothing out of tune. Sold!

Comments about Yamaha FG Series FGX800C Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I spent over 2 days trying out over 50 guitars in 3 different stores. I was prepared to spend up to $1000. The sound on this thing is killer! It has some of the chimeyness of a Taylor but not too trebley and some of the bottom end of a Martin. This guitar is loud. I play pretty hard and it takes it like a champ! Played pretty good out of the box but really came alive once it was setup. The only thing I wish it had was a neck strap button but my tech fixed that. I'm pretty animated on stage and can't stand having one end of the strap tied to the top of the neck. Falls off my shoulder when jumping around.

The Martins and Taylor's up to the $1500 range just didn't have the time I was looking for. This thing smokes em and the for the price, it can't be beat. Hats off Yamaha!

Comments about Yamaha FG Series FGX800C Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I am a beginner with the guitar, but after trying many different guitars I finally decided on this one. The sound seems to be much stronger than the fgx 700. Many of my friends that have very expensive guitars say it sounds and plays great.

Comments about Yamaha FG Series FGX800C Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I play about 10 to 15 gigs a month, mostly wineries, wine bars, and lounges. A friend of mine, who makes his living touring and demonstrating guitars for Yamaha. Needles to say he is a phenomenal player and I really respect his opinion. He told me about this guitar as I was looking for one for my 20 year old son, but I couldn't spend a fortune. I personally play a Taylor 310CE which I absolutely love. I picked up this guitar at a GC and was immediately hooked. It felt a bit small for me as I am a 6' 3" 300 pound bear but my son is a little skinny 5' 9" 160 pounder. The sound was rich and full and the neck felt great right off the shelf. I seriously thought about keeping for myself as a back-up and giving my son an older Breedlove that I have. But Catholic guilt took over and I gave it to my son. He absolutely loves it. Tomorrow I am going down to get another one for myself. For the money I think this is the best guitar I have ever played.

Bought this Yamaha FGX 800 C, and found that it's great solid good quality guitar for a beginner but also an advanced player. I had to spend 50.00 to have it set up by a luthier at GC but that was well worth the money!! Overall, I love it and use it mainly in summer where I can play and sing around a campfire!!

Comments about Yamaha FG Series FGX800C Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've been playing for over 40 years and I have owned many fine instruments. IMHO this guitar compares quite favorably with the low-end models from the top names. I have purchased the FG800 as well and the 800 series Yamaha guitars give you $800 to $1200 value for $200 to $300! Amazing!

I oiled the fingerboard and bridge and put a new set of Ernie Ball Aluminum/Bronze 12-54 strings (which I highly recommend) on the guitar and it was ready to go. I didn't even have to adjust the truss rod!

Comments about Yamaha FG Series FGX800C Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I played guitar as a teenager, and after a 42 year hiatus, I stated playing again. I purchased a Yamaha FCX700FC acoustic electric in December 2014 based on its playability, sound, and price point. I wanted a second acoustic guitar to keep in different tuning, and I purchased a Fender TBucket, in flame maple. It is an absolutely beautiful instrument, and the action is superb, but I never thought the sound quality was a good as the less expensive Yamaha. So, I purchased this FGX800C, which is the updated and upgraded version of my first one purchased back in 2014. This guitar is in natural finish vs. the sandburst finish of my other Yamaha. The quality of the workmanship is excellent, and the sound actually seems a little bit better--probably because the scalloped bracing allows them to make the soundboard thinner and more resonant. Anyway, I love the guitar. I play all three of the instruments, keep them in different tunings, and enjoy them all. If I could have only one acoustic guitar, this would be it.

I was looking to spend over a grand on a used guitar. I ran across this because I remember how great the old fg series was and it piqued my interest. This is by far the punchiest yet smooth guitar ive played in 20 years. Sounds amazing amplified. Maybe not as smooth as a Taylor but much more dynamic. Zero regrets. This one will stay with me for a long time.

Comments about Yamaha FG Series FGX800C Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Bought a Fender guitar to practice with an acoustic guitar (I own 5 guitars total classical, electric, and travel guitars). The bottom bridge came unglued after ten days of taking it home, so I wanted something different and better built. I wanted to stay in the $800 or less budget, so I headed to Guitar Center; I played with over 30 guitars for over two hours (including Taylors and the mini travel Martin's). I stumbled on this Yamaha which had the most clear rich sound! I was very impressed with the quality of the electronics; particularly the tuner! I took it home and plugged it up to my amp, and once again, I was very impressed with the guitar's capabilities! I highly recommend this guitar even when it never crossed my mind to own a Yamaha.

This guitar is a great deal at it's price. I was in the store for hours playing different brands of guitars at different price ranges. Making the decision to choose this one was a no brainer. In my opinion this guitar plays and sounds better than some of the more expensive/popular ones. I'm glad I chose the Yamaha FGX800C Acoustic-Electric Guitar.

I have tried many taylors, I love taylor sound but it costs a lot. Therefore, with a good electronics I wanted to buy a fender but this was not only far better than a high end fender also was cheaper. I can not say how beatiful the resonance in the guitar. You only might need to buy and install elixirs to have taylor grade guitar and better electronic with builtin tuner. gladdly it also uses 1.5v batteries not 9v.

Comments about Yamaha FG Series FGX800C Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've played guitar for over 40 years and owned many fine instruments; Martin, Taylor, Gibson, etc. The Yamaha FG800 series guitars are unmatched in their level of quality and value at this price point. I purchased the FG800 first and was delighted, a guitar that looks great, sounds great, plays great, and is inexpensive enough to take anywhere, worry free! Yamaha blew the doors off any other brand at this level and set the guitar world on it's ear. Now they've done it again. The FGX800 is perfect for playing any venue without worry. Don't get me wrong, if something happened to my Yamaha I'd be upset, but not nearly as much as if something happened to one of my more expensive guitars. It's just nice (and unprecedented) to have a guitar this good for this little.

Comments about Yamaha FG Series FGX800C Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I went into the local music store expecting to buy a Taylor 114 or Taylor 214 also. I picked up the 214 and it just wasn't the guitar for me. I picked up a fender 140 c e and it had no Bass to it at all hardly. Didn't like some of the other readers here I stumbled across another guitar thinking it was a fender and it sounded beautiful. To my surprise it was a Yamaha fgx800c. Never considered buying a Yamaha but it sounded as deep and Rich as I could have wanted. Just goes to show you when you listen with your ears and not with the name brand and price tag you get the same response many of the reviewers here got. You will need to add another strap button to the neck because it only comes with one. For the money this is Bar None the best guitar I think that is made. I went out of my way to write this review so somebody out there searching for a good acoustic guitar who leads worship at church as I do and in youth groups would not miss out on this deal!

Comments about Yamaha FG Series FGX800C Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Been playing since the Beatles came out with LOVE ME DO! Was seriously looking for an alternative to my Martin D-35 to bang around with. Heard about the FG830. No electronics. But then, looked at this after I read about Yamaha's FG800 series guitars. I was INSTANTLY HOOKED. So, I got one for myself... and one each for two of my grand kids who took up guitar as a new year's resolution. -- This guitar offers the ABSOLUTE BEST VALUE for the money. It was ready to play OUT OF THE BOX... just changed the strings. ACTION was just right... INTONATION is spot on... and the sound is better than those Macassar Martins! What more could one ask for?

Tried 4 of this Model, 2 of the 4 were very good Players, with great even Tone that projected well, plugged in the 2 that sounded superior already, were even better sounding plugged in to a clean Acoustic Amp. Great job Yamaha, your quality, and attention to detail are back, and the bang for your buck has never left. Holds Tune very well, nice easy Action,Intonation pretty close from the Factory, maybe some fine tuning needed, but overall pretty tough to beat this Model.
