collapse expand iconDescription

The flagship Astra Modulation Machine pedal establishes a new standard for faithful emulations of coveted analog effects, delivering a sonic authenticity that surpasses all other stompboxes. Featuring three legendary effects—the Chorus Brigade, Flanger/DBLR and Trem 65—it conjures the tones that shaped rock history. Operable in mono, dual mono and stereo modes, the Astra Modulation Machine lets you craft lush soundscapes in any configuration. With rugged construction, intuitive controls and preset capabilities, the Astra Modulation Machine gives you a portal to the past and a path to new discoveries.

Chorus Brigade Resurrects a Classic

The Chorus Brigade effect meticulously recreates the famed analog chorus and vibrato unit from the 1970s. With controls for speed, depth, level and mode, you can dial in every nuance of this influential sound, from subtle shimmer to seasick sway. The Chorus Brigade's circuitry gives a dimensional, retro character that stands apart from sterile digital replicas.

Flanger/DBLR Bends Time and Space

The Flanger/DBLR effect captures analog sound in exacting detail, simulating its colorful, somewhat lo-fi bucket-brigade circuit. Tweak the speed, depth and intensity knobs to conjure anything from a subtle thickening effect to an otherworldly whoosh.

Trem 65 Delivers Opto Tremolo Warmth

Based on the beloved tremolo circuit in the American '60s amplifiers, the Trem 65 effect faithfully recreates their balanced, warm pulsations. Choose between sine or square wave modulation, and adjust the intensity and speed for tremolo that moves from barely perceptible to intensely pulsing. The Trem 65 gives single notes and chords alike a pleasing undulation that evokes vintage rock and roll.

I bought the astra and the Strymon mobius to do an a/b comparison. The astra is a really amazing pedal. The effects algorithms (especially the chorus. Spot on for boss ce-1 sounds) are all very usable and the pedal is intuitive and simple to use, but the Strymon has way more effects and the number of banks to store presets just put it over the top, but it is a chonky boi and it takes up twice the space the astra does on your pedal board. I'd say the astra is about 80% as good as the mobius, but they're similar price, so unless you're really into universal audio stuff (and they make great stuff) and you have limited space on your board, I would just go with the Strymon

    • There is more to this pedal than meets the eye.

The effects in stereo are unreal. I first impression left me wanting more effects for the price, I wanted Univibe and Rotary. However, after registering the Pedal online, which require me updated my OS on my MacBook Air, the Phaser and Harmonic Trem has quenched my appetite for further Modulations, for now at least. So far have have not been able to use the Effect Application to access other functions, so we shall see how that works out. Otherwise, the Pedal has one preset, I would like at least one preset per modulation effect which would increase the versatility of this pedal during live performances. That being said, the Harmonic Trem is better than my Chase Bliss Gravitas and Walrus Audio Monument Pedals, which I love. I am no Flanger Fan, but this I can use, with a smile.
