The description states, "it is set up in the USA to MENC specifications, which means as soon as it is tuned to pitch, your instrument will sound great and play beautifully." This makes it sound as if it is pretty much ready to go. This was a gift so I found this to be disapointing. It took a lot of YouTube and some prior knowledge of instruments to get this cello ready to play. Be aware of the set up time and effort before purchase.

I gave this cello as a gift. The description says, "It is set up in the USA to MENC specifications, which means as soon as it is tuned to pitch, your instrument will sound great and play beautifully." That makes it sound as if it is ready to go. The bridge was not set up and if it weren't for YouTube and prior experience with other string instruments, it probably would have been quite an issue. Please be aware of this when deciding whether to purchase this instrument.

This is definitely a lower end instrument. It does not come ready to play out of the box. We had to take it to a local music shop to have it set up, sound post, bridge..... It cost about $60. I emailed and called customer service and they gave me a discount to cover the cost! The second or third time my daughter used her bow it snapped. Luckily we purchased the repair coverage. We got a replacement bow after a few weeks and it was the wrong size. 2 stings broke after a few weeks (the gentleman in the music shop had pointed out that they were 'unwinding' when he set it up). They did mail out 2 new strings. The customer service has been good, but every time something goes wrong it just takes time to get it sorted.
In the long run, it will be less expensive than renting a cello for my beginner 4th grader taking lessons at school, but I wish we had spent a bit more and gotten a better instrument. She will outgrow it by next year and we will definitely look into a different brand and better quality instrument.

The bridge is not cut right. The D buzzes and the A isn't even playable. The fingerboard seems slightly wrapped as the buzzing is worse through the midsection where the fingerboard leaves the neck. Now I have to deal with the hassle of returning a cello.

I purchased this for my son and it is a good basic student cello. The bow isn't great and the rosin that comes with it is terrible, but those are little things.
