Gretsch - Black Nickel Over Steel Snare Drum and Stanton Moore

Gretsch Drums - An Inspirational Timeline

Description
The Gretsch Drums Black Nickel Over Steel Snare Drum delivers a bold tone suited for any genre. Its 14" x 6.5" size provides ample projection and articulation, allowing tones to truly cut through the instrument mix. The 1.2 mm triple-flanged steel shell is coated in a sleek black nickel finish for durability and style. With its medium-thin shell and 45-degree bearing edges, this snare produces a balanced attack, full-bodied tone, and pleasing overtones.
Responsive, Versatile Black Nickel Over Steel Construction
The Gretsch Drums Black Nickel Over Steel Snare Drum's steel shell and black nickel coating provide an ideal combination of sensitivity, cut, and projection. The steel shell's thickness and bearing edges allow the drum to speak with a balanced, controllable response. The black nickel plating protects the shell while dampening unwanted overtones, enabling drummers to achieve a variety of sounds from crisp and articulate to punchy and fat. This highly resonant yet focused snare is suited for genres from rock to jazz, funk to hip hop.
Triple-Flanged Hoops for Superior Rimshots
This snare drum features 2.3mm triple-flanged hoops that produce an ideal rimshot sound with a metallic ring and lengthy sustain. The hoops' thicker gauge and multiple flanges provide rigidity that translates the drummer's strokes into pure, unadulterated tone. Rimshots cut through loud stage volumes or dense mixes thanks to the projection afforded by the triple-flanged design.
Adjustable Throw-Off for Convenient Snares On/Off
An adjustable throw-off allows drummers to quickly disengage the snares with the flick of a lever. This convenient feature enables rapid changes between a crisp snare sound and a tom-like batter head tone. With a simple adjustment, drummers can achieve subtle variations in snare response to suit different musical applications.
Additional High-Quality Features
This snare also includes 20-strand snare wires, steel butt plate, steel snare bed, and Remo heads. Rugged yet refined, the Gretsch Drums Black Nickel Over Steel Snare Drum is a versatile instrument built to withstand the demands of touring drummers and recording studios alike.

I have many snares in my collection in all different price ranges and shell compositions, but the Gretsch 14"× 6 1/2" black nickel over steel snare is my Go-To snare for any and all occasions. It always stays tuned and can be played with any style of music at a very affordable price! The only thing I changed was the addition of die-cast hoops, but that was a personal choice.
Versatile snare for a great price

Great crack that you would expect from a metal snare with controlled overtones thanks to the nickle finish. Tunes very well high or low. I would 100% recommend buying this drum even at a much higher price.

Very solid fat sounding snare. Sounds really close to a Supraphonic aluminum.
Excellent sound and durability.
