Epiphone

collapse expand iconDescription

This ES-335 Figured is a reimagined version of the historic ES-335 from Gibson. Originally introduced in 1958, the ES-335 has been a mainstay in rock and guitar-oriented music for generations and now it can be a mainstay in your arsenal, too. Made from layered maple with a solid maple tone block for warmth and resonance, this semi-hollow guitar is equipped with Epiphone’s powerful Alnico Classic Pro humbuckers, each with their own volume and tone for a wide range of sweet vintage sounds. Comfortable to play and a joy to listen to, the Epiphone ES-335 brings a traditional guitar sound and look to the modern guitarist.

If you are handy or have a luthier a great prospect.

I waited for the Raspberry Tea Burst model to come back in stock. I've always wanted an ES model but could never convince myself to pull the trigger on a Gibson. I expected to have to do some tweaking before I even ordered. First observations: Beautiful guitar! The body and neck feel perfect with a shallow C feel. Workmanship, and build quality are solid. Well constructed. The jury is still out on the Indian Laurel fretboard though. But the Q/A on the factory setup is dreadful. I got one that obviously had no setup done at all. Evidently they just glued the nut in place and did a very minor going over. Frets had sharp edges all the way up and need softening. Most manufacturers do the first 8 or 12 frets but this one hadn't been touched. Also 2 frets were slightly high. Out of the box the pots and switch were scratchy and noisy. (this cleared up after some use) Serious intonation problems associated with the first five frets also the strings would stick sharp when fretted, until I pulled on them. Especially the G. A complete setup was necessary starting with the fretboard, which was absolutely straight but the bi-directional truss-rod allowed me to add a very slight relief. Personally I hate the ABR-1 style bridge, in this case which was buzzy. And in my opinion a waste of metal. After struggling with it I replaced it with a Gotoh GB-0525-001. I've had great luck with these in the past. It immediately resolved myriad intonation and noise problems. Then I got out my nut files. After removing a lot of material and setting the nut up the way Gibsons come out of the box new, I had a player. Plans for the future. Replace the tailpiece with a 28 gram model. Possibly replace the pickups and the tuners. I don't know. The Classic Pros are starting to grow on me. . Would I recommend this for a friend? If my friend had good luthier skills or understood that a complete setup was required. Yes.

This guitar is lame

About the only thing good about this guitar is its looks. It is CHEAPLY MADE and has many quality control problems. The pickups are muddy and no character, pickup selector switch broke as soon as I unboxed it. Action is very bad cause neck is wavy. Cheap junk

I received this as a present and had to send the first one back as the D string tuner was pulling out of the headstock. Guitar Center was great about taking it back and had a new overnighted to my house. No problems with the second one. Good playability right out of the box, stays in tune great and has become my main gigging guitar ahead of my Strats and Les Paul. A little work setting your amp and guitar and the tone is awesome. Versatile for all types of music.

Home ametuer player for around (40) years or so… This Epiphone ES-335 is quite a handsome guitar, plays fairly well, but needs a bit of setup work a care. Action is a little high, could use some fret work, and the pickups sound a little muddy. Will likely upgrade them in the future. Otherwise I'm satisfied for the money…

I bought it used at the GC in pristine condition. For the money it's a great guitar. I bought it for gigs that I don't want to take my Gibson to. I wasn't expecting it to be as nice as it is. Doesn't come with a case so be prepared to shell out for one. I don't think the previous owner ever had it set up so I had that done. To be expected in this price range. Even my Gibson 335 needed a setup when I bought it new, but that's a different complaint. Once set up, WOW! The pickups sound way better than I expected. I thought I'd want to swap them out when I first purchased it. After playing it for a while I'm not so sure it's necessary. It's a quality instrument and I have no complaints.

Regarding the Epiphone ES 335 in Flamed maple/ Iced Tea finish on your website: In the Q&A, someone asked if it is "Inspired by Gibson?", your answer was "no". When I went to the Epiphone "Inspired by Gibson" website, I compared all of the specifications between the flamed ice tea guitar on your website and on theirs, and it appears to be the exact same guitar…dimensions, pickups, hardware, etc. It even has the same price. So I am a little confused about why this is part of the "Inspired by Gibson" line. I even checked the year model on this guitar that you were selling and it is consistent with the year of manufacture that represents this line. Can you please tell me the difference between this guitar and an "Inspired by Gibson" version as you understand it? Thank you, I think it would be helpful to your customers if this is indeed part of that lineup.

"Inspired by Gibson" is simply a model name. They're the same guitar.
