Zildjian

collapse expand iconDescription

To celebrate 400 years since Avedis Zildjian began smithing cymbals in Constantinople, Ottoman Empire in 1623, the fabled brand is releasing a limited quantity of one-of-a-kind bronze alloy snare drums. Inspired by the legendary B20 bronze formula developed by Avedis Zildjian himself, the expert makers at Zildjian have collaborated with boutique metal snare designer Aaron Latos of Latos Drums to create an instrument with a look, feel and sonic signature worthy of any drummer’s envy. Perhaps most impressively, this heirloom-quality 400th Anniversary Alloy 14x6.5" snare is endlessly versatile, equally at home in front of a wall of amps as it is behind an orchestra or in a jazz quartet—a righteous testament to a brand that has transcended time and genre.

Zildjian 400th Anniversary Alloy Snare Drum Shell

State-of-the-Art Cast Bronze Shell

Every now and then, Zildjian, a household name synonymous with cymbals, dabbles in crafting metal snares for truly special releases. And it’s for good reason. Zildjian’s original B20 bronze and all their ensuing variant alloys have won a sterling reputation for their tonal character, resilient build and stunning shimmer. The 400th Anniversary Alloy snare features 100% pure Zildjian alloy from their cymbal foundry, leveraging a state-of-the-art shell casting process that’s been meticulously devised to give your snare ideal power, projection and expressiveness.

Zildjian 400th Anniversary Alloy Snare Drum Design

Expert Design

For this 400th Anniversary Alloy snare, Zildjian teamed up with master snare designer Aaron Latos, a legendary craftsman in his own right. Together, they devised shell specifications and hardware design, sparing no detail and consideration in creating the perfect sound and timeless aesthetic. The shell is precision machined to a thickness of 5 mm, and it bears a batter-side round over edge with a 30-degree cut, while the snare side sports a sharper 45-degree geometry to optimize crispness and responsiveness.

Zildjian 400th Anniversary Alloy Snare Wires

Cutting-Edge Snare Bed and Throw-Off Design

As the ideal accompaniment to this special 400th Anniversary Alloy shell, 8" wide snare beds utilize a blend of modern and classic designs, meant to accentuate the shell’s natural tonality while lending it a more centered articulation. Latos Drums’ beautifully minimalist patented throw-off lets you smoothly and seamlessly engage and disengage the snare with its cutting-edge vertical-pull design. Tension can be adjusted on the player side, and it affords plenty of drop distance. This drum is equipped with Vic Firth Canopus 26 strand snare wires, fashioned from Japanese steel with narrow bronze end plates for greater dynamic range and less sympathetic buzz.

Zildjian 400th Anniversary Alloy Snare Drum Hardware

Supreme Hardware Appointments

Custom-machined from 304 stainless steel and flaunting an electro-polished finish, all hardware components on the 400th Anniversary Alloy snare have been carefully curated to create this marvelous instrument. Vintage-informed flangeless counter hoops implement their Half Cast, 10-lug design with a 3.2 mm ring and precision-welded eyelets, delivering a matchless combination of tuning stability, resonance and durability. Its tube lugs, butt plate and tension rods are fully machined to ensure efficient, accurate and consistent tuning.

From its lovingly formulated Zildjian alloy shell to its custom stainless-steel washers, every piece of this 400th Anniversary snare has been designed and made to create a final product that is even greater than the sum of its parts. A worthy commemoration of its vast legacy, it combines the archetypical tonal, aesthetic and resilient qualities that have catapulted and maintained Zildjian’s success over the centuries.
