The Yamaha P-255 contemporary digital piano is for all musicians looking for an instrument suitable for both serious practice and live performance. Thanks to its portable design and built-in speaker system, the P-255 can be played in any place or setting, with or without external amplification. And with the first-of-its-kind Controller App for iOS, you can customize your piano sound or quickly adjust your favorite settings with touch-screen ease-of-use. As part of the best-selling Yamaha P-Series, the P-255 offers a more authentic piano sound and feel than ever before. With Yamaha’s knowledge of digital audio and over 125 years of experience building fine acoustic pianos, you can rest assured that the P-255 will meet and exceed your expectations of a portable digital piano.

The Sensation of Playing a Concert Grand
The P-255 uses the Pure CF Sound Engine to produce its piano Voices. As the only digital piano in Yamaha's P-Series to feature the following three functions, the P-255 can also recreate the characteristic acoustics of the grand piano sound in a more realistic fashion.

Key-off Samples - This feature reproduces the slight change in sound at the instant you remove your fingers from the keys. What’s more, different key-off sounds are produced for staccato and legato playing.

Sustain Sampling - The resonance of the soundboard and strings heard when the damper pedal is used has been sampled in order to recreate this acoustic effect. The P-255 responds to how deep you depress the pedal.

String Resonance - When the hammer of a grand piano strikes its string, the other strings will also resonate. The P-255 can reproduce this effect using its String Resonance feature.

Synthetic Ivory Keytops – Built to be Played
With a heavier touch in the low keys and a lighter touch in the high keys, the Graded Hammer (GH) action makes the P-255 feel and respond more like a real grand piano. Additionally, the white keys feature synthetic ivory keytops with excellent moisture absorption properties. This means that your fingers won't slip even when playing for extended periods of time.

Meticulous Acoustic Design
The P-255’s circular speakers vibrate in a highly natural manner to produce a well-balanced tone. Thanks to this design, lower notes in particular have a much richer sound than on pianos with oval speakers. The P-255 also features built-in tweeters aimed directly at the performer, so that higher notes sound brighter. Also, the pair of 15W amps built into each P-255 can deliver a very powerful sound.

Adjust the Sound to Your Taste or Performance Environment
The P-255 is equipped with EQ sliders—one each for the low, mid and high frequency ranges. By simply moving these sliders, you can easily adjust the digital piano‘s sound to your liking or to better suit the current song or acoustic environment. You can produce bright and shimmering tones that are clear and highly present or powerful sounds that pack a punch.

The P-255 Controller App for iOS
The free P-255 Controller App for iPhone or iPad can be downloaded from the App Store here. With it, you can control a wide range of the digital piano’s functions with an easy-to-use, touch-screen interface. This visual approach to configuring the P-255 makes it easy to try out functions that you may not have considered using before. Graphically choose which Voices to layer, adjust the split point, manage songs you record to a USB device and more, all with the touch of a finger. You can also use the app to store your favorite settings and recall them instantly whenever needed. Explore the settings and sounds of the P-255 even before yours arrives at home.

Comments about Yamaha P-255 88-Key Digital Piano:

I bought the P-255 in the hope of having a portable version of my beloved Yamaha Clavinova. I wanted a simple stage piano with good samples but not too many bells and whistles (I can always add those with the DAW). The sounds on the Clavinova are way, way better than those on the P-255, and the Clavinova is about 10 years old now. The P-255 sounds tinkly and very cheap, and actually is painful to listen to in the higher register, especially an octave and a half above middle C. (I thought maybe it was just me, and so I asked my wife, but she agreed.) The four offered piano sounds are pretty much equally bad. Fiddling with the on-board EQ did not help much. Their electric piano sound is also not nearly as good as the one on the Clavinova. Yamaha went from great to terrible, in my estimation - why use such cheap, tinny sounding samples? So before you buy this, I'd suggest borrowing a really good set of headphones from the salesperson (those stores are usually noisy!) and make sure you can live with these sounds. Everything else about the piano, I like - two headphone jacks (for teacher and student), it's relatively light weight, and the keys feel good. Such a shame they did this with the samples. I guess the one silver lining is that, because there's essentially no bass, you are unlikely to be able to disturb the neighbors with this.

Great piano

Comments about Yamaha P-255 88-Key Digital Piano:

I haven't utilized all of its functionality yet, but so far I love it. My main desire was for a digital keyboard that felt, played, and sounded like a real piano, and this one satisfies very well. I know it can do a great deal more, but for now I'm stuck on just playing and enjoying having a piano in the house again. Love the white, it's very sleek.

Comments about Yamaha P-255 88-Key Digital Piano:

The P255 is the 2nd Yamaha digital piano that I've owned and I love it. It sounds and feels like a real piano and at shows, if people hear it before they see it, they think it's a real piano. The action is awesome and I have had absolutely no problem with it. I'm looking forward to the next generation.

Comments about Yamaha P-255 88-Key Digital Piano:

I play piano with various jazz quartets and big bands around Indianapolis, and this keyboard is ideal for that.

      The good:

      1) Not too heavy. My previous board was a Yamaha P120, and it was about 3 pounds heavier. I really do notice the weight difference.

      2) Four different acoustic piano sounds to choose from, and they are all pretty good.

      3) 1/8" stereo mini-plug input on the back. You can use your auxiliary cord from the car on this board, to connect your phone or iPod to the keyboard. Very very handy.

      4) Two headphone jacks on the front. Very easy to get to.

      5) Several different basic rhythm patterns are included in an onboard drum machine. They are not super fantastic, but they are very useful nonetheless.

      6) The keyboard accepts a thumb drive on a USB port in the front. You can store audio tracks (must be stereo WAV format) from your computer on your thumb drive, and play them back through this keyboard. You can also store midi files from your computer, and play them back through this keyboard. And you can create midi files on the keyboard, to be stored on the thumb drive. Same thing with audio files.

      7) There is a three-band EQ with physical sliders on the front panel.

      8) Onboard speakers in the back pointing towards the audience, are very good. Not much bass, of course, but good for practicing alone.

      9) The synthetic ivory keytops really are nice.

      10) The optional iPad app is really great. You can control any function from the app. You'll find many functions that you did not know this keyboard had. Nice to have a big screen from which to operate the keyboard.

      12) The realistic touch and feel of the keyboard is unmatched by any other digital piano manufacturer, in my opinion.

      The bad:

      1) The sustain pedal scoots away from your foot as you use it.

      2) The Rhodes piano sound is just so-so.

      3) When you are not using the iPad app to control the keyboard, the functions are not easy to figure out.

Excellent service, excellent product: Can't beat that

Comments about Yamaha P-255 88-Key Digital Piano:

I'm a professional musician with over 400 gigs per year including over 800 load-ins and outs, set ups and tear downs. Obviously, I need a sturdy keyboard workhorse with an excellent piano sound and touch. The Yamaha P-series fits the bill and has for over 15 years. This is my fourth Yamaha P series keyboard they all still sound great after some hard use and even abuse. The P-255 is the best of all. Its lightweight, slightly smaller footprint, slim and clean looking, great options and very nice onboard sound. The staff at Guitar Center got it to me quickly with zero hassles and even at a discount. Hard to beat.

Comments about Yamaha P-255 88-Key Digital Piano:

We purchased the P-255 for our church musicians and for special events. They noticed a slight difference in the warmth of our old Roland piano compared to the Yamaha piano sound but they still love this keyboard.

Regarding the sustain pedal: be careful not to depress the sustain pedal when turning the keyboard on. It can reverse the poles. We managed to do it when we were unboxing but it is a fairly quick fix by turning it Off and back on to reset. There is a warning about this in the instructions. It could possibly catch someone by surprise and could be a difficulty if someone doesn't think fast or if the instructions aren't handy. It could also be a great practical joke during a practice gig
Beyond that microscopic detail It's a great keyboard. BUY IT!
