Yamaha HS Series Powered Studio Monitors

Description
The HS5 powered studio monitor from Yamaha is designed to provide an honest and balanced representation of your audio. With bi-amplification that utilizes separate amps for the high and low frequencies, each driver can achieve optimal performance without interference for a clear, detailed sound. The 5" woofer and 1" dome tweeter are mated to the amplifier and mounted in a system that minimizes resonance and vibration. Large magnets and an advanced magnetic circuit enable a wide, dynamic frequency range.
Hear Every Nuance in Your Mix
The HS5 is engineered for accuracy, not enhancement, giving you a neutral platform to craft and evaluate your mixes. The matched components and tuned crossovers provide a smooth, balanced frequency response so you can make mix decisions with confidence, knowing how your audio will translate on other systems.
Tailor the Sound to Your Space
The on-board controls for high trim, mid EQ and room control allow you to compensate for the acoustics of your room and placement. Cut or boost the high and mid frequencies and reduce low-end buildup from nearby walls. Whether in a corner, close to walls or in a more open area, you can optimize the HS5's performance for your unique setup.
A Trusted Industry Standard
Yamaha's studio monitors have been relied upon by audio professionals for decades thanks to their accuracy, performance and durability. The iconic white woofer and refined design of the HS series have made them a genuine industry standard for good reason. With a proven track record of success, the HS5 provides a solid sonic foundation for your studio.
Portable Powered Monitoring
The HS5 gives you everything you need for high-quality monitoring in a self-contained, compact design. Simply connect your audio source and power cable and you're ready to start mixing and producing with professional-level tools.

Hearing the true mix from these..Thanks Marietta,GA Guitar Center!!!
Alex Reyes And John Halpin at the Marietta Georgia Guitar Center..Made it possible for me to get a pair of these fine studio Monitors.Cannot thank them enough..True customer service and honorable sales associates.OK on to the monitors..i plugged them in and played back music made in Presonus studio one pro..right away i could hear the adjustments i needed to make in my mix.The cabinets are rounded at the corners to help avoid damage.these are heavy for smaller monitors..they have a big sound..now that i have these i can begin to learn how to achieve a better sounding mix.I use waves plug ins for my recordings and i am looking forward to hearing what they can do to custom tailor the sound...had my eyes on a pair of less expensive monitors..but so glad i got these!!!!

cabinet shielding issues
Had these for a few years. Sound quality and appearance is great, but a very annoying buzz drove me absolutely crazy. I'm almost certain the buzz is due to poor shielding from EMI: it occurs when no inputs are connected; occurs in unison in both units; modulates in weird rhythms like a digital signal; occurs more during the day than at night, and stops if i drape tin foil over the speaker (faraday cage). This may not be audible for all users: I live in a dense urban area (tons of radio signals), the buzzing is pretty low-level, but i have these positioned pretty close to my sitting position.

I need a high quality flat sound for listening to and analyzing piano music. This would be through my home desktop computer. Are these monitors appropriate? How do I connect these monitors (Yamaha HS5) to a computer audo output?
You have a speaker or headphone output on your computer. Connect there, cable is included. These are good speakers and they do have a flat response. I would also recommend the Sterling Audio MX5 5" Powered Studio Monitor, Black (Each). The 8" is also available for the same price as the 5" Yamaha.submitted4 years ago

Hows the bass on these speakers
The bass sounds really good on these monitors. Unlike studio monitors with added bass or treble frequencies which may sound more flattering at first, HS Series speakers were designed to give you the most honest, precise reference possible, providing an ideal sonic platform to build on throughout the mixing process.submitted5 years ago

What cables does each monitor come with?
These monitors do not come with cables. There are a couple different cables that work. If your controller has XLR outputs, you can use standard XLR to XLR cables. Otherwise, you can also use 1/4" TRS to XLR Male cables.submitted8 years ago

I bought the Yamaha speakers and I guess they don't come with xlr cables? What kind do they require if I am plugging into the Dennon all in one dj set up. With Serato and USB compatibility
Depending on which Denon controller you own, there are a couple different cables that work. If your controller has XLR outputs, you can use standard XLR to XLR cables. You can also use 1/4" TRS to XLR Male cables.Yamaha speaker accepts either XLR cable or standard 2 wire 1/4” phone jack connector. Bet your existing system can interface with either. Unless cable is quite long, either should work nicely; if cable is over 50’, stick with XLR. Guitar Center offers XLR cables at good prices. If you buy elsewhere at lower price, be sure to give cables tender loving care as they could certainly be fragile. Best wishes
