Overview

Offering the easiest way to enjoy true analog amplifier sound in your headphones, the amPlug series has been a bestseller since it first appeared in 2007.

With amPlug 2, the crucial analog circuit has been drastically improved, and each model now provides three modes. Guitar types provide multi-effect functionality, and a rhythm function has been added to the bass type. A foldable plug mechanism that rotates 180 degrees and an auto power-off function are additional features that contribute significantly to improved convenience and ease of use.

The amPlug is the simplest way to get serious sound; occupying virtually no space, it's an ideal choice for any guitarist or bassist.

Plug the amPlug into your guitar and enjoy serious sound. It's that simple.
To use the palm-sized amPlug, just plug it into your guitar and grab your headphones. Playing your guitar or bass with amPlug results in serious amp sound that's overflowing with presence. A wide range of variation is available, as the lineup consists of four models: "AC30" provides the AC30 top-boost sound, "Classic Rock" gives you the classic crunch sound of a UK-made 100W amp, "Metal" delivers the extreme high-gain sound of a US-made amp, and "Bass" is designed specifically for bass.

A completely analog design accurately simulates the circuits of classic tube amplifiers, resulting in a rich, detailed sound.

While retaining the fully analog multi-stage gain circuit, additional refinements have been made toward reproducing the sound and performance of real tube amps. These refinements include factors such as reproducing the way a tube amp responds to different guitars, pickups, and volume as well as recreating the sense of air movement within the speaker cabinet. As a result, the carefully selected circuit structure and components of the new amPlug delivers a more highly evolved sound.

Nine selectable effects provide a great range of sonic variation
The second-generation amPlug adds a variety of new functions. To give you more variety, each amp provides three modes. "AC30" provides use of a tremolo circuit, "Classic Rock" features a mid-boost, "Metal" gives you mid-cut and "Bass" allows the amount of gain to be switched. The three guitar-type models also provide nine selectable effects with three types of Chorus, Delay and Reverb, while "Bass" contains nine different rhythm patterns. With versatile sound and functionality that is uncommon of such a compact unit, these models enable you to get even more serious about your guitar or bass playing.

Foldable plug that rotates 180 degrees
The plug that you insert into your guitar can rotate in five steps up to 180 degrees, enabling it to be adjusted for optimal visibility. This design also allows even more compact storage in your guitar's case or gig bag.

Auto power-off function ensures longer battery life
We've added a function that automatically turns off the power even, if you leave the unit with the power on. Since this function works by detecting operations or audio signals within a certain length of time (30 minutes), it has absolutely no effect on normal use. This feature further enhances the convenience of the amPlug.

amPlug is the most convenient way to play
With the amPlug providing up to 17 hours of battery-powered operation, you'll be able to play anytime and anywhere. Since there's no need for a guitar cable, it's a great way of practicing at home, or warming up before a live performance or while on tour. Also, there's an AUX in jack for your MP3 player, so you can jam along with your favorite songs.

Highlights
No need for a guitar cable! Plug it directly into your guitar; the latest version of this headphone guitar amp is the fastest way to get authentic amplifier sound.
The fully-analog circuit has been totally reworked for an even clearer and more present sound!
"Metal" gives you the extreme high-gain sound of a US-made amp.
Each model provides three amp modes, giving you even more variety.
Nine selectable effects (Chorus x 3, Delay x 3, Reverb x 3) are built into the guitar-type models.
A multi-stage gain circuit featuring VOX's proprietary analog technology perfectly reproduces the complex distortion created by a vacuum tube amplifier.
New folding plug mechanism rotates 180 degrees to fit any guitar
Play anytime, anywhere with up to 17 hours of battery life
Use the AUX input to jam along with your smartphone, tablet, or MP3 player

I purchased the Vox amplug2 in Classic Rock due to the store availability though I would have preferred Metal. I was really happy with the sound and gain options though and I would say that you can easily get distortion similar to classic Metallica or Iron Maiden without needing the Metal amplug. For the price it actually feels really solid and quality and it sounds terrific. This was definitely a purchase I would recommend for anyone who needs to practice without disturbing family members or sleeping kids.

I purchased the amPlug 2 Metal Guitar Headphone Amp after purchasing the amPlug AC30. I was really impressed with an amazing sound coming out of such a little unit. I got this so I could play my guitar without waking up my wife and kids. I do find it hard to use as everything is tiny and difficult to read. So I feel around until I find what I'm looking for.

Comments about Vox amPlug 2 Metal Guitar Headphone Amp:

I was not sure when I first saw this unit. I actually passed it up for a Line6 POD a couple years ago.(Guitar center didn't have any to try out) Then a friend showed up with one and I got to play through it. I was blown away. The unit has 3 separate high gain modes, each with their own unique tone profile. The unit also comes with built in effects that have 3 different settings per effect. I think the effects are delay, reverb/chorus and tremelo. The sound you get in your headphones is pure heaven. I only wish you could drive a cabinet with this unit. It sounds better then then both Mesa dual Rec and the Randall Thrasher. So fat and thick. The chunk is heavy but the high end cuts through crisp and clear. Not muddy at all. The perfect decay and sustain. You can fiddle with it and get some pretty good clean tones but that's with the gain all the way back and the volume on your guitar really low. It was built to chunk and is very hard to tame for a true warm clean sound, Besides the tone the second best thing about this unit is the line in jack. You can play along to your favorite tunes online. I plug mine in to my laptop with a 3.5 jack and mix the volume levels on you tube and I'm jamming Slayer tunes with Tom and the boys as loud as i want through my headphones. Goosbump tone through quality headphones and a high quality 3.5 cord.
The build is a little janky. It's plastic and makes a creeking sound when u plug it in and out. I expect mine to break here eventually. So i purchased the extra 2 year coverage. If I get 2 years of daily use for the $50 or so I spent with the warranty I'll be happy. I highly recommend the Metal unit to anyone who wants a killer heavy tone for 50 bucks. The tone will wreck you with your live sound. I can't get my gear to sound that good.

Good, except there is no clean tone. Even with the gain all the way down, I have to turn down my guitar volume to get a clean tone. Otherwise, overdrive is awesome.

Comments about Vox amPlug 2 Metal Guitar Headphone Amp:

I've bought dozens of pedals and usually the experience is one of being impressed by how rugged the outside box feels and how underwhelming the sounds produced by the box are. This is completely the opposite. Amazing sounds and versatility with the chorus, reverb, delay and three different types of gain!!! I would GLADLY have paid DOUBLE the price for a sturdy chassis surrounding all of these glorious electronics.

Comments about Vox amPlug 2 Metal Guitar Headphone Amp:

The Amplug 2 is something everyone who likes to play electric guitar should have. I wanted to get one for a while because apparently my roommates aren't as big of a fan of my Marshall combo amp as I am. This thing allows you to get so many great sounds straight into your headphones out of an electric guitar. I play an epiphone Les Paul and this matches up perfectly. I bought the metal version just based off of what I heard on YouTube videos about it. One thing I saw missing from those videos is the fact that you can turn the gain down on the unit and play really tame tunes or just do scales or anything like that. The effects are awesome, especially reverb. For around $40 it is a steal also. I can't believe I didn't buy one a long time ago. My local Guitar Center did not have one in stock which I was a little numbed out about because I always like to try before I buy but I wasn't too worried about it seeing as though it wasn't too expensive. The only thing I don't like about it is that it feels a little cheap, just kind of like a Chinese made toy but it definitely sounds expensive when you play it. I have yet to hook up the auxiliary port to anything but that is definitely my next move with it.

I work for an ambulance company, and play guitar on my down time between calls. This little device makes it easy for me to have a variety of tones available in a tiny package, and not bother my partners. The sound is surprisingly good for what it is. You can dial in mushy metal to high clear mids with good attack. Ive also found it to do well with classic rock tones, and with some reverb and rolling off the guitars volume, you can get some dirty blues vibes going.

          Definitely worth the money.

Metal model is my favorite... get one.

Take your practice anywhere! Great tone rivaling my Randall rg200sc but in a go anywhere package. Practice while shopping at the mall or take it to work. I can not express how awesome this little thing is. It's a little limited on effects, only having mid cut, delay, and hall reverb but it's more than enough for practice. Vox hit one out of the park when they made this. Pick one up today and you will not, I say again NOT, be disappointed.

Comments about Vox amPlug 2 Metal Guitar Headphone Amp:

I got this to practice without disturbing the rest of the house. I bought online, so I never heard it and was amazed by the sound out of this thing. It sounds "big" no other way to describe it. The overdriven distortion sound is really good. Has a few different presets, each one tweakable with rotary knobs on the side of the unit.

I also found the unit works well plugged into powered PC speakers. Doing this really makes it nice to play along with tutorials online. I used a spare set of computer speakers I just had laying around and set them up on my desk next to my PC speakers. You can turn the volume on the speakers down as low as you want and still have an overdriven sound. Very neat.

If I could point out any negatives, its that the plug design doesn't feel super sturdy. Its not flimsy or anything, but they made it pivot to work with a variety of guitars. If your guitar has the jack on the side of the body, its great. If you use it on a Strat, its going to be kind of flopping around by your tone knobs.

The other thing is that the dials and markings explaining what they do are all black and pretty much unreadable from more than an inch or so away in bright light. I end up just fiddling with them to get the desired output. Fortunately, the "mode" you're in is indicated by the power light changing colors. These are little things to nitpick and don't really detract from the performance of the unit.

Really handy tool that allows you to practice at a good volume without creating a noisy environment in your house. Pretty amazing sound quality and nice effects.

My expectations on this were low but I'm blown away by the sound of this little box. So chunky with well defined tone. I haven't plugged into my Line 6 since i got it. The effects are just ok and a little cumbersome to cycle through but the 3 channels of crunch are so thick and chunky sounding you really don't need the effects. My biggest problem with most amps is they get muddy when you get really heavy tones going but this little unit cuts right through. Very Impressed.
I also bought the 2 year warranty($8). Seemed prudent because i cant see this unit holding up very long with everyday use. So when it finally breaks i can get a new one.
