Toontrack Superior Drummer 2.0 Crossgrade

Description
Toontrack Superior Drummer 2.0 has been redeveloped for optimized use with e-drums with more effective use of sample layers and much improved loading times. It includes custom MIDI played by session drummer Nir Z accessed through its new customized MIDI engine and arranger, EZplayer Pro, and has standalone capacity through Toontrack solo. Premium UK-based software developer Sonalksis has outfitted the Superior 2.0 with a 5-band EQ, high and low pass filter, compressor, gate, and transient designer filters.
The new interface is reminiscent of EZdrummer with its simple handling and layout but gives you layer upon layer of in-depth features to create the ultimate drum track.
Toontrack Superior Drummer 2.0's samples were recorded by Pat Thrall, Neil Dorfsman, and Nir Z at Hit Factory, Avatar Studios, and Allaire studios, NY. The three have worked with artists as diverse as Meatloaf, Celine Dion, Nick Lachey, Sting, Bruce Springsteen, Dire Straits, Beyonc, Bj¶rk, Kiss, Joss Stone, Genesis, John Mayer, and Chris Cornell.

I like Superior Drummer 2, except you can't load your own drum files. However, the company's decision to not offer an upgrade path to Superior Drummer 3, that instead makes loyal customers pay full price for it, is a deal breaker.
Step up from EZ

The Superior Drummer crossgrade is certainly a step up from EZDrummer in terms of flexibility, but also complexity. The user interface is not nearly as intuitive as EZDrummer, but certainly can be mastered (RTM!). Crossgrading also allows you to take advantage of the additional Toontrack software packages that will work only on SD. The drum sounds are amazing and, as with EZD, most of the hundreds of preprogrammed loops are usable right out of the box, so you do not have to master MIDI to get a great drum track. The Toontrack registration process is a bit tedious, and care must be taken when loading version updates, but the site works and Toontrack frequently offers "freebies" to registered users.
