I was skeptical, but WOW

I have a short-scale Fender Mustang bass, and I hate it. It sounded fine, but the thing won't stay tuned, and I loathe the lack of relief where my arm hits the body. When I saw this, I was shopping for a regular-scale bass, maybe a Sterling bass. The green finish, the humbuckers, the chimera of bass parts stuck together, and I read that even though it is short-scale, it plays more like a regular-size bass. [-1 star] I was super skeptical, so I was already picking out a backup bass in case I didn't vibe with it. I vibed. What I love: The retro aesthetics, the neck scale, the sound of those humbuckers (very 60s/70s Gibson), the green is *chef's kiss*, and pretty much everything else. 4/5 stars What I find questionable is that it has a neck dive problem when seated, and WHY in the world would they set the bridge so far up the body? The original VI bass, which this body shape is based on, had the bridge much further into the body. I don't love that part. For a short-scale bass, it's heavy and roughly the same size as a standard scale. (Get a standard gig bag or case) These are not deal-breakers for me, but if they made a REAL short-scale version, I'd prefer it. If you're looking for a classic Fender sound, this isn't it. But I wasn't, so it's perfect for me. I LOVE the retro Gibson sound. I might very well be in love with this despite its odd flaws. It played well right out of the box, though they always need some intonation.

    This has such good tone and plays so well for the price!!! I never liked squire until I saw this green and had to try it out. I've owned quite a few budget basses and a nice one and this is my favorite one for playing worship!! It has low tone and jazzy tone which is amazing. Very recommend!!

    What an AMAZING bass right out of the box! These pickups are some of the best I've ever played.....deep thunder with clarity! Has to be one of the best basses for the money for sure! Even though it's considered a "short-scale" bass, it plays big! Kudos to Fender for thinking outside the box and bringing this to the public. The finish and everything about it is excellent! It's a little on the heavy side but totally worth it.

    1) Squier Classic Vibe '70s Jazz Bass. 2) I don't recommend a short scale bass unless the player is simply too small for a full scale.
