Pleasantly surprised, a really playable budget guitar.

I received my HH Affinity about three weeks back. I had played a demo model in my local guitar center that was decent but had a few flaws that were perhapsjust from being the demo model. However, out of the similarly price guitars in tried, I was surprised to find this played the best. The satin finish on the more modern neck was a welcome difference from some of the other Squire models in have played throughout the years. I ordered and received my affinity and found it felt even better than the demo model. The fit and finish on the neck and body were mostly flawless (more on that later) and also to my surprise, the factory set-up was spot on: Great action, well intonated, and even the fret ends were nicely finished. The tuners and hard tail bridge really deliver stable tuning, like, for real. Tonally, the guitar has a nice mix of classic tele spank and tele deluxe/modern higher output pickups. Ok, now for the minor issues. First, while the fret ends were filed and nicely rounded, the fret surfaces were rough and unpolished, audibly so. You could definitely hear the fret grit on bends and even vibrato. After just a few weeks of playing, this has already diminished and in a few more weeks (or after a fine grit polishing) I expect it to be a non-issue. Another notable issue is the controls. Both knobs and the 3-way switcher are rough and have a 'cheap' feel to their operation. The knobs and switch have a similarly gritty feel to the frets. Over time, these will inevitably loosen up too. The final criticism is that the tone knob has a weak curve to it. Turning it down from 100% to about 40% produces little audible differences with most of the curve tapering off below 40%. All in all, a nice guitar and, at least the one I recieved, an excellent entry level axe for players of all levels be you a new player or an experienced one looking to spice up you collection a bit.

Does not stay in Tune, Sounds muddy.

I bought this guitar as a back up, It does not stay in tune, One tuner feels like it has sand in the gears, The pick up's are horrible, On a good note, The neck feels very good after performing a fret level job, So After leveling the frets, I replaced the tuners with fender lockers, Replaced the pick up's with pearly gates, Now I have a guitar I can play, In hind sight, Should have bought a MIM Fender Tele HH.

Got it as a mod platform because I liked the color. Fret ends are slightly raised just enough to be able to feel them but not rough at all. Tuners are holding out fairly well. But the pickups seem a little weak and muddy though so they'll be getting replaced soon. Squier really should look into better packaging though as the first one was trashed by UPS so I had the replacement shipped to the store.

My bride bought this for me last year after I had tried one at a local GC. Surprisingly, the sales man tried to talk me out of it. The neck was perfect for me, I've played LPs for years and it's very similar. Great guitar! No issues. Great tone and plays like a pro

I literally play out with this guitar all the time. only mods i did to it were change the tuners, I cant stand split shaft tuners, and add some shielding tape inside the body. with a little bit of effort i have a total workhorse of a guitar. will be buying the black one next!
