Description

The Larry Carlton H7 from Sire is a semi-hollow body guitar designed for the signature tone of the Steely Dan guitarist. It has a comfortable, familial C-shaped maple neck paired with an ebony fingerboard featuring 22 medium-jumbo frets for smooth transitions and easy playing. A 3-way pickup switch and individual volume and tone knobs give you plenty of leeway to shape the sound you get from the Larry Carlton H7's dual humbuckers.

Not for me

I was curious about this guitar and the Epiphone inspired by Gibson ES 335. A guitar center 2 hours away had both in stock so i checked both out. Both seem well made but needed some fine adjusting. The Sire was fretting a little sharp on the D string on the first two frets, so a little notching of the nut is needed. We all have our preferances and 2 things on the Sire kept me from buying it. First the neck felt perfect on the first 5 frets then it kept getting wider and thicker to the point by the 12th fret it felt like a bat. I don't like big necks, just my preference. 2nd deal breaker was the neck pup sounded absolutely great but the bridge pup to me was lacking. I had the volume set at 5 on both and to switch from the neck to bridge there was a volume loss. I think it's a well built guitar and very competitive in it's price range, it's just not what i want. I didn't buy the Epiphone either. I own a D'Angelico that competes with these and it's more suited to my ear and playing.

Disappointed

After all the online reviews, I was excited about this guitar . Ordered online and upon inspection, guitar had finish cracking on the base side of the neck where joins the body. Bridge was tilted back towards the tail piece, bridge inserts were not flush with the body, and some frets ends were sharp like they had been filed and had sharp fragments sticking up. Neck pickup seemed bright for a 335 style guitar. Returned and purchased a Epiphone ES 335 IG and very impressed with the build quality, sound, and playability.

    I use it to contrast with the Fender guys in my band. I always wanted a 335, this was a steal. Took some setting up but it's awesome.

    Purchased the H7 about a week ago. Even off the shelf it played nice. Just got it back from my Guitar Tech. All I can say is: "Martha get the butta the butta!" Now it's a little slice of heaven! I seriously scrutinized every particular about the Guitar. Flawless! Highly recommend!

    I was impressed by what I'd seen about the Sire H7 online. When one turned up at a GC near me I had to try it. It totally lived up to the hype even though the strings were old/dead and it kinda needs a setup. The neck is a little narrow as many have said, but it's not a problem for me like I was afraid it would be. The fretwork and rolled fingerboard edges are amazing. The tone is bright and clear but not harsh... it's warm but not muddy. Other than getting it professionally set up I might also swap out the tuning machines. Being unbranded isn't a problem if they hold tune well, but I'm questioning a couple of them. Changing strings could help that too I suppose. Overall it's a great guitar! Just shy of 5 stars because of the tuning heads and no case or gig bag is included (I get it but...). #sweepstakes

    I bought it because of great reviews and the 60s-style 40mm nut width, which is easier for thumb-over playing. I play hard rock; it's now my main gigging guitar and my Gibsons just sit in the closet. The new 2023s have a modern-style 43mm nut, so check the specs when you order.

    Punching above its class. Looks great, plays great, mine not a blemish on it. Really good looking all around. Great headstock! No gig bag is a bummer. I gave it a set up…oiling the fret board, quite a bit of ink came off but the fret board looks great still and no ink on my fingers.
