Mackie SRM150 - Features

Description
Don't be fooled by the small size. The SRM150 is big both on features and sound quality. The built-in 3-channel mixer offers two combo XLR/line inputs—with true 48V phantom power—a stereo channel for CD/MP3 players, and Mackie's powerful 3-band active EQ. The SRM150 speaker can even be mounted on a mic stand, making it an excellent personal audio monitor.
Built-in Mackie Mixer
At the very heart of the SRM150 is a Mackie mixer, with all the versatility and features Mackie is known for. Channels 1 and 2 can be used for mic/line sources, thanks to the handy Neutrik combo jack, which accepts either 1/4" TRS or XLR connections. True 48V phantom power is supplied, so you can use even the most finicky condenser mics with confidence.Channel 1 also has an added feature. Simply plug in your guitar, bass (or any other Hi-Z instrument), press the CH1 Instrument switch and you get all the benefits of a DI box, without any hassle or added expense.
Dedicated Stereo Inputs
The Mackie SRM150 monitor's Channel 3 is reserved for stereo devices, such as an MP3, CD or tape player. Just connect to the dual RCA jacks from your device and use the Channel 3 Level control to balance the gain with your other inputs. This is a truly handy feature for performers working with backing tracks, MIDI sequencers or drum machines.Glorious Mackie 3-Band EQ
Mackie invested tremendous resources optimizing the center frequencies of their 3-band active EQs. By selecting 100Hz, 2.5kHz, and 12kHz for the lows, mids and highs respectively, they created an equalization scheme of a highly musical nature. SRM150's EQ bands work very independently of each other, allowing you to cut or boost a specific band without affecting the others. With up to 15dB boost/cut capability per band, the onboard active EQ provides plenty of tone-sculpting latitude and feedback control.High Output, Premium-Quality Sound
The Mackie SRM150 PA speaker's powerful 150-watt Class-D amplifier with an equally impressive 5.25" full range, has a weather-resistant neodymium driver, which was developed by the speaker gurus at EAW. The SRM150 puts out a blistering 120dB SPL @ 1 meter, far more than the competition offers. The SRM150 sounds great, whether you're accompanying a vocalist with your acoustic at the coffee house or making an A/V presentation to the board of directors. The Ultimate Personal Monitor
Not only is the Mackie SRM150 an excellent loudspeaker system for compact PA applications, but it also works well as a personal monitor. The onboard 3-band EQ facilitates feedback suppression and offers the same great tone-shaping capabilities as other legendary Mackie compact mixers. Mic stand ready with an included boom arm adapter, the SRM150 puts total control right at your fingertips. In addition to standmounting, the SRM150 was designed to provide the proper monitoring angle when used in traditional floor wedge and tabletop placement.Rear Patchbay
Want to use a second SRM150 or an SRM450? The rear panel Thru jack provides connectivity for an extra powered monitor, or for sending a mic level output to the front of house system (by activating the mic/line switch). The Main input also has a dual purpose. It can obviously be used to receive monitor mixer signals, but can also be used to link more SRMs.Applications Galore
Uses for the Mackie SRM150 are virtually limitless. Below is a short list of some obvious, as well as not-so-obvious applications:
• Compact, portable performance PA system
• Executive boardrooms
• A/V presentations
• Tradeshow demonstration booths
• Classroom instruction
• Aerobics instructors
• Live music performance monitors
• Personal practice with stereo tracks
• PA system expansion for "Cry" or "Green" rooms
• Anywhere high-quality audio is required but space is limited

Eurolive vs. Mackie
So I went to Guitar Center last night to test out the Mackie SRM150 and the Behringer Eurolive B205D spot monitors ( mic stand style). I had read pretty good reviews about the B205 with and a couple even specifically lashed out against the Mackie?s. I went to Kirkland because they specifically had the B205?s in stock. I put both monitors through a side by side test with a) an Ipod, B) Guitar, C) vocal, D) Guitar and vocals combined The first thing worth noting is that the overall tone and sound you get from a spot monitor is certainly NOTHING like you get from a 12? speaker. As a general rule, very thin tone comparatively. Having said that, I think the 3 band eq in both units makes a HUGE difference. Both speakers came alive with richer tones when the low and mid EQ were increased. Unfortunately for the B205d, that is where the rubber meets the road as far as I was concerned. With the low end EQ turned up, the B205d speaker could not handle the thud and was cracking and popping whereby the Mackie continued to deliver smooth low end tone even with the low eq maxed out. Additionally, when I play acoustic I sometimes ?slap? near the sound hole or strings. At higher volume and with the low eq up, the B205?s picked up everything with it?s overdriven snap, crackle, and pop. Not so much on the Mackie. I think the internal speaker on the Mackie is slightly larger than the B205, and if that?s what made the difference, then so be it. I suspect it is just better components in the speaker and crossover. Over all 4 tests above, I found the Mackie to create better overall tone and sensitivity over the B205?s. The B205?s may have been slightly louder at lower volumes, but that?s about it. Another interesting note is that they had a display set up with these side by side, but he had to swap out the B205 because the speaker was already blown in the display before we had even started! One more reason to be nervous about the B205's. I suspect at the end of the day, that these types of monitors are just going to be trouble in general if they are overdriven or abused in any way. If handled with care for lighter acoustic shows, they should work fine. I understand that price is an issue, and $75 a unit is quite a difference, but in terms of quality of sound, there is no question the Mackie SRM150 is better.

Good but has some quality/reliability issues...
I bought this speaker new from GC late 2014, early 2015. The thing has been awesome up until about 3 months ago (Sept 2016). The sound is crisp, loud, and cuts through even in a full band setting - it is perfect monitor. It also weighs like 10 pounds, if that, so it really is the perfect monitor! There's already enough heavy stuff to deal with! I never really understood the value of a good monitor until I got this. I used it as a monitor in an acoustic duo setting which was fantastic. And then I moved into a full band setting with drums and bass and it worked there as well. Then, one day (at practice fortunately) it just cut out. The thing I tip my hat to Mackie for is that they include a 3-year warranty. There was a place local here in NJ, and the tech told me the preamps go in them a little too often. Lo and behold, that's what it was. He replaced it and had it back to me next day - awesome service. So I get it back and it is working through 2 practice sessions. We get to gig day, I hook it up and it works for about 30 seconds and now the blue light is fading in and out and there is absolutely no audio. Like a power surge, but I use a power conditioner (Furman) to ensure that kind of stuff doesn't happen. So now it is down again and I'm taking it back again to that awesome company to fix it (seems like a different issue now). But, do you think I can trust this thing live again? Heck no. I have heard wonderful things about the Behringer speaker similar to this one, so I think I'll try that. It is a shame. I'll also be writing Mackie as this speaker is awesome but not being able to hold up (was not abusing or overloading it) under normal (but not very often) usage is just unacceptable. So, bottom line - great sound from a little speaker - but be very wary.

This item was purchased for a church piano monitor to replace an older Galaxy Audio Hotspot, and it sounds a lot better. The range of this speaker does a good job for personal monitoring, and it has plenty of power to get loud. We purchased the extended warranty after reading some information about sketchy reliability, but so far have not needed the coverage. The build quality seems solid, but ours is permanently installed and will not be moved often.
Nice personal monitor

I just got this little unit to give me better feedback while singing and playing piano in a jazz sextet. I plop it on top of the baby grand right in front of me and turn it a bit when the drummer is singing next to me. I love its sturdy construction, light weight, and full, rich sound output.
