I haven't been playing for about 15 years but decided to get back into jamming with some old friends. I didn't want to waste money on a big name or dollar amount since I will probably never play in front of more than 5 people and I don't need to impress myself. I've always loved the quality and feel of the Ibanez products (I loved the old "roadstar" series) and this guitar just felt right to me. The strat body has always apealed to me except the Ibanez neck fits my hand better. I tried the Squier strats first but was not impressed with the build quality, the Epiphones were nice but I didn't want the same axe as all my son's friends, Deans were also on the radar but I remember their quality was always hit or miss. The stock strings were replaced first thing, I raised the action a touch and lubed up the tuning gear. After that it held its tune better, had clear sound all the way down the neck and didn't "jump" tension during tuning. This guitar replaced my old Kramer and feels like twice the guitar for half the price (and that was 20 years ago). I'd recommend this guitar for anyone on a budget but still wants decent equipment. When teamed up with the Behringer 30 watt amp it is a hell of a value.

couldn't walk away
i usually stop by to see what new guitars that they have in stock at the guitar center, and I did just that on Monday around November 10th, and I went through their section of the fenders, the gibsons, washburns, etc, and I came across the Ibanez section which is usually kept at the back of the guitar section, and their it was the GR20 hanging on the wall with a clearance price tag. In the past, I have purchased guitar for less than $200 and often then not, I was disappointed, even with a Fender Strat. The One that I play the most now is my Fender Strat Midnight Purple, which I guess is from their standard series, which I have my Roland Gr 20 connected to. Anyway, so I came across the grx20 which felt a lot like the fender strat with the sound closely resembling of the Les Paul with the dual humbucker pickups, and at $79 clearance price, I didn't think it was going to be that good, but when I played it, it felt right with me. I don't know what the original price was, but the guitar seems quite well put together, and this is only my third Ibaez guitar. I still have the one that I have purchased in 82 called the Custom guitar, and I've had one with a floating trem bar with fine tuner on the trem, which I did not like the sound at all. This one, with the five way switch I could get as gritty as Ace or bit twangy in the style of Stevie Ray Vaughan, and I think I found a guitar that I could play from Ace Frehley to Zebra, without switching guitars. It stays in tune well for a guitar equipped with a standard tremolo, and it uses the same type of trem arm from a strat so that's a plus. the tuning hardware isn't as smooth as my other two previous Ibanez guitars, and the Trem arm is a bit on the stiff size. But beyond that, this guitar was more than what I had bargained for in that price range. it far preceeds my warlocke by a couple of miles, and I paid more for the Warlock then this one. Beginner or not, this guitar is not a bad choice. I would have wished if they had the white one, but they were only closing out the black model. I will probably end up replacing the Tremolo with a little softer to the touch one, but other than that, I would have give a four star, but because of the tremolo arm, I am going to give it three stars.

i bought this not too long ago and i think it's amazing, i plugged this into my boss katana and it has a really nice tone, if you're a beginner and need a guitar that looks nice, plays well, or just wanna show off a really hot guitar i'd recommend this to you, but it does have fret buzz that does get on my nerves sometimes, also the fretboard isn't as skinny as all the other ibanez guitars but i like it, the whammy bar works pretty good, it'll go out of tune sometimes but it's not too much (which i was really suprised about considering the price of this baby. really though i'd recommend this to anyone
Great purchase.

I purchased this guitar in 2003 after I had only been playing a few years. Today I still think about that guitar and how much I loved it. I have yet to play a guitar with a better neck. It's super slick and fast. It has good electronics and a great sound. It sounded just slightly flat compared to the other guitar I had (specifically on the high notes) but I really couldn't ask for more with the price. It's a great guitar. You won't be disappointed.
Affordable and reliable.
