Comments about Gibson Custom Standard Historic 1958 Les Paul Plaintop Reissue VOS Electric Guitar:

I love love love the R8, especially the neck, which is perfect for my old hands. The thinner 1960 reissue neck caused my left hand to cramp when playing Travis or any other style that requires holding consecutive barre chords while sustaining every note. The 1958 has sufficient girth to prevent such cramping. Its pretty much as easy to play fast runs on it as it is on the 1960. This 2016 is my second 1958 VOS reissue over the years. Mine has the Bourbon Burst finish, with some very nice figuration on the top.

I had to adjust the pickup and pole heights to get the sound I wanted in conjunction with my Fender Vibrolux Reverb-Amp. The Custom Buckers seem not to be as muddy as some of the humbuckers that come in current models. I favor a clean jazz sound, but play classic rock, as well.

Comments about Gibson Custom Standard Historic 1958 Les Paul Plaintop Reissue VOS Electric Guitar:

The big R8 neck is perfect for my hands. Bigger than the '60, smaller than the '57 (I don't remember playing a '59), it gives good support to the palm and doesn't slow me down at all. The Custom bucker pickups are clear and not muddy. I use it for several old styles, but especially like it clean through a Fender amp for jazzy noodling.
