How To Choose A Snare Drum Head

Evans

collapse expand iconDescription

The EC Resonant tom head is the first bottom head to promote the natural tone and body of any tom by means of frequency "tweaking." The EC Resonant tom head is constructed from a single ply of 10-mil ultraclear film augmented with the EVANS EC ring. It attenuates unwanted overtones and centers pitch, while delivering a desirable mid-range frequency bump. It's the first head to have the capacity to control and correct the tuning inconsistencies of bottom heads, a long-standing roadblock to perfect tuning for many drummers. The result is a more resonant, fatter tom that projects a truer pitch, irrespective of volume levels.

EVANS made a quantum leap with the EC Resonant. This head should stun drummers accustomed to attributing better tom sounds only to batter head selection. They'll be shocked to discover that their dream tom sound was laying in wait: the EC Resonant releases it.

Great head...worth the price!

This head brings it all together. The thicker film construction of the head allows for deeper, more focused tone that a lot of rock/metal drummers love. I like Evans heads (was playing with Hydraulics on my kit) but wanted to try and open up the sound of my Tama Starclassic kit a little more. Putting on the EC2 batter heads with the EC Reso heads on bottom has really opened up the sound without a lot of ring, overtones, or unwanted noise coming from the drums. The key is to match the pitch top & bottom. I promise you will not be disappointed!

Nuthin' Fancy...

Nothing really extraordinary here...tried as a batter head, but didn't like that role...in its intended role as resonant head, it was slightly warmer than a G1, but nothing shocking...some people might not even hear the difference...flesh hoop was a bit large and got slightly stuck in the rim...meh...I like Aquarian, but would take Evans any day over Remo!

This is perfect. A friend of mine said I needed to try these, so I did. I switched out all my drum heads with evans. I usually use remo heads. These were so much easier to tune and have a better sound. I am glad I tried them out. I would definitely recommend these to anyone in the market for new heads.

  • I would definitely recommend this product for any drummer

I wanted to find a reso head that would improve the sound with a deep warm tone and these things made it happen. I use Evans hydraulic on the batter side with these reso heads on birch shells. Sounds great!

I use this together with a Remo Clear Emperor batter head because I have been looking for a nice warm tone from my toms with medium sustain. This combination works great for that. The tone is not so warm that the toms sound dead, yet a balanced high end. Lots of punch with just the right amount of sustain.

  • I will buy again when time comes.

At a certain frequency, my snare buzzed. Keep on tuning to personal perfection. All my sticks bounce nicely and most of all i dont hear plastic on plastic stick tip sound like on 18"floor tom.
