Ernie Ball

collapse expand iconDescription

Ernie Ball 2731 Cobalt Power Slinky Electric Bass Strings are round-wound for maximum clarity and serious punch. The Cobalt Series is clearly an improvement on its classic nickel-wound counterpart giving the player increased sustain, clarity and output. In addition, they resist sweat and moisture better and have unmatched flexibility when compared to other nickel wound strings. Cobalt is the most magnetically active string alloy on the planet and attracts the magnets in your pickups more than any other string.

"Ernie Ball Cobalt Bass Strings are the new standard! Bigger, better tone, sustain and volume. Finally a real innovation with strings." - Randy Jackson
"I can't believe how much low end I get out of Ernie Ball Cobalt Bass Strings. Also, the high end is super crisp, seemingly with more definition. Unbelievable." - Dave Larue

All Ernie Ball strings are precision manufactured to the highest standards and the most exacting specs to assure consistency, optimum performance and long life. Made in the USA.

I've been playing bass over 35 years and wish these strings were around in the 70's and 80's. These strings are by far the way to go. I buy the heavy gauge (110 E string). The tone, sustain and extra loudness make it a no brainer when it comes to choosing new strings - RC

I got this set to give it a try on Drop C tuning. They are smooth like they say, they are loud like they say, and yes it has the clarity they claim. I tend to EQ my bass preamp a bit more treblely (bass 40% / treble 60%) because I like the pick alike attack it gives when playing finger style. About feel, they feel like nickel plated strings, but with sharp (or sharper) attack of stainless steel. You can dial all styles of genres with this strings, but when using a pick and some distortion, I can achieve the Justin Chancellor tone, and Geddy Lee's tone when using fingerstyle.
