Excellent Quality and Value

It looks much better in person. There is more depth and it's less yellow. There is more of an amber tint. The AAA maple top is nice and the cherry back, sides and neck are finished very nicely as well. The cream binding is also attractive. The guitar itself is great. The pickups, tone, resonance, and the looks are what make this a 5-star guitar. The pickups do offer a tone similar to that of the AFD record by GNR. They are a bit hot but they really sing. The tuning pegs are not great but they are just fine. I will probably replace them. I did not prefer the strings that it came with. Overall the hardware could be better but the pickups are excellent and guitar resonates like a Les Paul should. Many Les Paul purists will turn their nose up to a bolt-on neck but bolt-ons have their own advantages. And it makes the guitar more affordable. It is not as versatile as my Epi Les Paul Standard but it's not as heavy either. The weight is around 7.2lbs for the Slash AFD vs. my 10lb Standard. In the guitar realm, for me that is the equivalent of a Labrador vs. a St. Bernard in terms of weight. This is my 3rd Epiphone guitar. This guitar is made in China. My other two were made in Indonesia (Epi Lp Standard and the Hummingbird Pro). The craftsmanship and playability out of the box was better on both guitars from Indonesia. The Slash AFD required a lot of attention to correct fret buzz and intonation. I still may have to take it to a tech to make it just right. I did get it playable. It's staying in tune for the most part and it is an GREAT joy to play.

Nice guitar, Poor shipping and item is used

Liked the first one I got and when a buddy saw mine he wanted one so I ordered another one. What we got was a used guitar from Guitar Center. My comments here are about the actual first guitar I got - Plays nice and has massive sustain. Set-up was reasonable out of the box. Easy to play and get that "Slash" sound. In some aspects it is nicer than my real Gibson LP. No fret sprout and I had no buzzing frets either. Guitar is ok. Truss rod, string height, intonation all close. Pickups were set at 8-10mm ??? Should be 2-3mm Otherwise sounds good. You get what you pay for.

  • I bought one of these about 6 years ago from guitar center.

It is a beautiful guitar but the price I paid was really out laddish. I think I will give it to my neighbor's son for his birthday in October.

I am a "returning" novice and was looking at the Epi Special II in transparent black, but saw this one with the tuner and other accessories that I would need to buy anyway, so I thought it was a great value. Also, it looked really great with the flame maple top, cream joint and cherry red back and neck. I have a black with white pick guard MIM Strat and wanted something that looked totally different. I was not really into the whole "Slash" theme personally, but the logo on the headstock is pretty subtle. Sound-wise, the pickups scream, and the clean sounds are beautiful, rich and clear. I love this guitar!

You would have to modify the guitar and swap out the bridge to do so.

It all depends on personal preference. I would pick the Fender Champion, but that's just me. I would suggest watching a few demo videos on it and decide that way.
